Uba Sani, the Governor of Kaduna State, has declared an emergency response following the derailment of an Abuja-Kaduna passenger train on Tuesday morning. In his directive, the governor ordered full deployment of state emergency services to ensure the swift evacuation of stranded commuters and the provision of urgent medical assistance.
Uba Sani emphasized that the Kaduna State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) and the Ministry of Local Government Affairs must take immediate control of the situation. He stressed that “human life comes first,” warning officials against bureaucratic delays that could worsen the crisis.
Uba Sani Orders Swift Evacuation and Medical Aid
Uba Sani instructed that all passengers trapped at the accident scene be evacuated without delay. Mobile clinics and ambulances have been dispatched to provide emergency healthcare, while hospitals across Kaduna have been placed on alert to admit casualties.
Uba Sani also demanded that psychosocial support services be made available, highlighting the mental trauma often overlooked in such disasters. His approach suggests a holistic response that prioritizes both physical and emotional recovery.
Uba Sani Warns Against Negligence in Rail Safety
Uba Sani expressed outrage over repeated safety concerns on the Abuja-Kaduna rail corridor, arguing that negligence cannot continue to endanger lives. He urged the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) to provide answers and take responsibility for lapses that led to the derailment.
Sani warned that if systemic failures are not corrected, rail travel will remain a nightmare instead of a safe alternative to road transportation. He called for accountability measures and stronger monitoring of railway infrastructure.
Uba Sani Promises Collaboration with Federal Agencies
Uba Sani assured the public that Kaduna State would not face the crisis in isolation. He confirmed that his administration is working hand-in-hand with the Ministry of Transportation, the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and other federal authorities to investigate the incident.
Uba Sani emphasized that collaboration is key, noting that rail safety is a federal responsibility but its failures directly affect Kaduna residents. He insisted that states cannot remain silent when lives are at risk due to infrastructural decay.
Sani Urges Calm but Calls for Vigilance
Sani appealed to residents to remain calm, stressing that panic could worsen the situation. He reassured the public that the accident is under control and that emergency services are fully mobilized to manage the aftermath.
Sani, however, also called for vigilance, warning citizens not to spread misinformation that could fuel tension. He noted that reckless speculation often creates unnecessary fear, especially on sensitive matters such as transportation safety.
Sani Pledges Transparent Investigation
Sani concluded by pledging that investigations into the derailment will be transparent and comprehensive. He vowed that findings would be made public and that any party found culpable would face strict consequences.
Sani insisted that tragedies like this must not be swept under the carpet. He promised that Kaduna State would use this incident as a turning point to demand higher safety standards, ensuring that the Abuja-Kaduna rail line regains public trust.
