Governor Francis Nwifuru Fires Aides and Dethrones Kings Over Bloody Land Wars

Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State has taken sweeping disciplinary action in response to rising cases of alleged violent land disputes across parts of the state, sacking several political aides and dethroning some traditional rulers accused of complicity or failure to maintain peace. The decisive move, announced after a series of high-level security meetings, signals the administration’s zero-tolerance stance on communal violence and abuse of authority.

According to government sources, the land disputes, many of which have simmered for years, recently escalated into clashes that threatened lives, livelihoods, and inter-communal harmony. The governor expressed deep concern that individuals entrusted with leadership—both political appointees and custodians of tradition—were either directly involved or allegedly turned a blind eye while tensions degenerated into violence.

Governor Nwifuru stressed that his administration would not allow personal interests, political influence, or traditional authority to undermine public safety. He emphasized that the primary responsibility of government is to protect lives and property, adding that any official found wanting, regardless of status, would face firm consequences.

Political Aides Lose Appointments Over Alleged Complicity

In a bold administrative sweep, the Ebonyi State Government announced the immediate dismissal of affected political aides allegedly linked to the land conflicts. Governor Francis Nwifuru noted that preliminary investigations pointed to abuse of office, intimidation of local communities, and the fueling of disputes for personal or political gain.

The affected aides were accused of using their proximity to power to interfere in land ownership issues, allegedly emboldening certain groups while marginalizing others. Such actions, the governor warned, erode public trust in government and worsen already fragile community relations.

Governor Nwifuru reiterated that public office is a call to service, not a license for misconduct. He directed relevant agencies to continue investigations, warning that further evidence of wrongdoing could lead to prosecution, not just removal from office.

Traditional Rulers Dethroned as Government Reasserts Authority

In an equally significant move, the state government dethroned some traditional rulers over alleged roles in the land disputes. These monarchs were accused of failing in their sacred duty to act as impartial arbiters and peacekeepers within their domains, with allegations ranging from tacit support for violence to outright involvement in land tussles.

The governor described the dethronement as painful but necessary, noting that traditional institutions must stand for justice, unity, and peace. He emphasized that culture and tradition must never be used as shields for actions that endanger communities or incite conflict.

As part of broader conflict-resolution efforts, Governor Nwifuru announced plans to strengthen local peace committees, accelerate land dispute mediation mechanisms, and deploy security agencies to flashpoints across Ebonyi State. He called on citizens to remain calm, law-abiding, and cooperative, assuring them that the government is committed to restoring lasting peace and preventing future land-related violence.
