Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri Warns PDP Leaders: ‘Expelling Wike Will Destroy This Party’

Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri Warns PDP Leaders: ‘Expelling Wike Will Destroy This Party

Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State has firmly distanced himself from calls within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to expel the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, from the party. In a strongly worded statement released on Friday, the governor stressed that such a decision does not represent his position and would not serve the best interest of the party. He emphasized that he would never support any action capable of plunging the PDP into deeper crisis.

Fintiri explained that while disagreements are normal in political parties, punitive measures such as expulsion only worsen internal conflicts and weaken party cohesion. According to him, the PDP requires healing, not hostility, if it hopes to regain its footing ahead of future national elections. He maintained that he stands for dialogue and reconciliation rather than division and confrontation.

The governor’s statement comes at a time when tensions within the PDP have resurfaced over perceived anti-party activities by some members. Fintiri’s refusal to back the move against Wike signals a notable pushback from influential leaders within the party against what they describe as actions that could destabilize the PDP further.

Governor Emphasizes Peace, Stability, and Reconciliation as the Only Way Forward

Governor Fintiri reiterated his unwavering commitment to the peace and stability of the PDP, describing himself as a faithful party member who will not support any agenda that risks tearing the party apart. He warned that internal battles only weaken the opposition and empower rival parties, urging party stakeholders to act responsibly.

According to him, the PDP remains one of Nigeria’s most influential political platforms, and its survival depends on unity, mutual respect, and collective decision-making. Fintiri noted that every major political party faces internal disagreements, but successful parties prioritize mediation, fairness, and conflict resolution over polarization and extremism.

He called on elders, stakeholders, and national leaders to focus on strengthening internal mechanisms for dispute resolution. The governor emphasized that the party must prioritize healing old wounds, reconciling aggrieved factions, and building a united front capable of competing effectively on the national stage.

Fintiri Urges Stakeholders to Work Toward Party Cohesion

Governor Fintiri appealed to all PDP stakeholders to redirect their energy toward unifying the party rather than exacerbating divisions. He maintained that no party can thrive amid constant internal conflict, adding that only unity can position the PDP as a viable alternative for Nigerians seeking credible leadership.

He reaffirmed his readiness to support any initiative aimed at restoring peace, rebuilding trust, and promoting progress within the party. The governor insisted that his stand is guided solely by a desire for reconciliation and stability, which he believes are essential for the party’s survival and long-term relevance.

Fintiri concluded by assuring party members that he will continue to work with all leaders and stakeholders to ensure that the PDP emerges stronger, more united, and more prepared for the political challenges ahead.
