Governor Ademola Adeleke Accuses FG: “Osun’s LG Funds Are Being Withheld for Politics!

Governor Ademola Adeleke has openly accused the Federal Government of Nigeria of deliberately withholding Osun State’s local government funds for political reasons. The outspoken governor made the allegation during a press briefing at the Osogbo Government House, claiming that the move was designed to cripple the state’s development agenda and weaken the will of the people.

Governor Ademola Adeleke stated that the continued seizure of constitutionally allocated funds to local governments in Osun has created immense hardship for rural communities. He noted that basic services such as healthcare, education, and rural infrastructure have been severely affected, warning that “playing politics with people’s welfare is the highest level of insensitivity.”

Governor Ademola Adeleke emphasized that the alleged financial blockade is part of a broader pattern of economic manipulation aimed at punishing states governed by opposition parties. “We have fulfilled all legal and administrative requirements, yet our funds remain withheld,” Adeleke said, urging President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intervene and restore fairness in fiscal administration.

Governor Adeleke Says Withholding LG Funds Threatens Grassroots Development

Governor Ademola Adeleke lamented that the ongoing withholding of Osun’s local government allocations has stalled many critical projects across the 30 local government areas of the state. He pointed out that road construction, market rehabilitation, and water supply initiatives have been forced to a halt due to lack of funding from the federal purse.

Governor Ademola Adeleke further disclosed that local government chairmen and community leaders have repeatedly expressed frustration over their inability to execute essential development projects. He said the suspension of statutory allocations has widened inequality, pushing rural residents deeper into poverty while urban centers struggle to absorb the economic shock.

Governor Ademola Adeleke argued that such politically motivated economic strangulation violates the principles of federalism and constitutional fairness. He called on the National Assembly, civil society groups, and traditional institutions to demand transparency and accountability from the federal government regarding all withheld allocations.

Governor Ademola Adeleke vowed to take both legal and political steps to ensure that Osun State receives every kobo due to it under the federal revenue sharing formula. According to him, the state government will not hesitate to challenge any unconstitutional act in court if reconciliation efforts fail.

Governor Ademola Adeleke maintained that the matter is not just about party politics but about justice, fairness, and the economic survival of millions of Osun residents. He warned that the continued suppression of local government finances would only deepen discontent and erode confidence in democratic governance.

Governor Ademola Adeleke reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to transparency, equity, and development, promising to protect Osun’s financial autonomy. “We will not bow to intimidation,” he said. “Osun people voted for progress, and we will defend their mandate with every constitutional tool available.”
