Former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, alongside Deputy Senate President, Senator Barau Jibrin, on Thursday led influential party stakeholders from Kano State in reaffirming their commitment to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election campaign ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The political leaders, who gathered in Abuja, not only declared unwavering support for the President but also vowed to unseat the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) administration currently in power in Kano. The closed-door meeting drew a large turnout of party stalwarts, including Minister of State for Housing, Alhaji Abdullahi Atta; Senator Kabiru Gaya; House Appropriations Committee Chairman, Hon. Abubakar Kabir Abubakar; and former commissioners and lawmakers at both state and federal levels.
Speaking after the meeting, Ganduje assured that the APC in Kano remains united and is committed to reclaiming political dominance in the state. He praised President Tinubu’s reform policies and appointments, particularly those benefitting Kano, noting that these efforts had further solidified the President’s base in the region.
Defections Boost APC’s Confidence in Kano
Dr. Ganduje highlighted recent defections from rival political parties into the APC as proof of the ruling party’s growing strength in Kano. He mentioned notable political figures, including Senator Kawu Sumaila, former Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, Honourable Kabiru Ruru, and several members of the state assembly who had joined the party.
He further revealed that even some commissioners from the current NNPP-led state government had defected, a development he described as evidence of the APC’s consolidation in the state. “Our party has grown from strength to strength,” Ganduje declared, adding that the party’s strategy for 2027 would involve mobilising voters through the ongoing registration exercise.
The former Kano governor urged citizens to take part in voter registration, stressing that mass participation was essential for the APC to secure victory in both the state and national elections. “We will continue to work very hard to ensure that we succeed in the next gubernatorial election in Kano State,” he said.
Barau and Stakeholders Reaffirm Loyalty to Tinubu
Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin described the Abuja gathering as a strategic move designed to position the APC for victory in the forthcoming elections. He expressed confidence that President Tinubu’s development initiatives in Kano and across northern Nigeria would guarantee the President’s re-election in 2027.
“We are solidly behind him because he has never failed us. He has delivered projects, established institutions, and initiated development programmes that have directly benefitted our people,” Barau stated. He urged all party members and stakeholders to extend the message of support to the grassroots, encouraging continued loyalty to both the APC and the President.
Similarly, Hon. Abubakar Bichi commended President Tinubu for spearheading road construction and other key infrastructure projects in Kano. He dismissed claims that the President had neglected northern Nigeria, insisting that the APC’s performance in the state would speak for itself in 2027.
