Fubara Denies Rift With Lawmakers, Urges Support for Tinubu

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has dismissed claims of a rift between his administration and federal or state lawmakers from the state, insisting that he has made consistent efforts to meet with them. Speaking on Wednesday during the commissioning of the dualised 28.4-kilometre Ahoada–Omoku Road, the governor Fubara also called on Rivers residents to continue supporting President Bola Tinubu, stressing that his recent defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC) was a step taken to promote peace and progress in the state.

No Rift, Just Delayed Mediation Efforts

Governor Fubara clarified that he has no personal disagreement with members of the National Assembly or the Rivers State House of Assembly. Fubara explained that efforts had been made to set up a reconciliation meeting, to be convened by former Governor and FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, alongside elder statesman Ferdinand Alabraba and other leaders. However, he noted that the promised parley had not yet been arranged.

He emphasized that those suggesting he rejected meetings or turned down legislative proposals were spreading falsehoods. According to him, the agreed process required the mediators to convene the discussion, and he had chosen not to bypass them to avoid creating unnecessary political tension. Fubara added that he remained willing to meet whatever conditions were necessary to secure peace and stability in Rivers State.

The governor Siminalayi said he had suffered from what he described as a “single story,” insisting that his views were often unheard. Fubara appealed directly to the lawmakers, stating that he had made every effort within the agreed framework to meet them and was still awaiting the scheduled dialogue.

Defection to APC ‘Not Personal’ but for State Stability Says Fubara

Addressing supporters at the event, Governor Fubara reaffirmed that his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC was motivated by a desire to ensure the unity, progress, and overall good of Rivers State. Fubara maintained that meaningful development could not take place amid conflict and division, adding that his decision aligned with the need to work harmoniously with the Federal Government.

Fubara urged residents to remain steadfast and avoid divisive politics, calling for collective support for both President Tinubu and the state government. The governor Fubara noted that his recent visit to the President had strengthened his resolve to pursue peace-driven governance, adding that the Renewed Hope Agenda would be vigorously implemented across all local government areas of the state.

Using a lighthearted moment to address his supporters directly,He rendered a revised version of a popular song, urging them to declare their loyalties openly rather than operate in secrecy. He said that transparency and unity would help the state move forward.

Infrastructure Delivery and Promises Kept

Highlighting achievements in governance, the governor Fubara noted that the Ahoada–Omoku Road project was part of his campaign promises, made alongside former Governor Wike. He said the completion of the road would ease mobility, boost commerce, and enhance socio-economic activities for communities along the corridor.

He assured residents that more development projects were underway and reiterated his commitment to delivering the dividends of democracy despite ongoing political challenges. He pledged that his administration would continue prioritizing infrastructure, stability, and welfare for the people of Rivers State.
