Senator; Former Sokoto Governor Aminu Tambuwal Challenges EFCC: Who Is Really Behind the Plot to Destroy My Legacy?

Aminu Tambuwal has categorically dismissed allegations from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), describing them as a calculated smear campaign to undermine his political credibility. The former Sokoto State governor and current Senator accused unnamed political actors of weaponizing the EFCC to settle scores and derail his growing influence in national politics. According to Tambuwal, this is not merely a legal battle but an orchestrated attempt to assassinate his character in the court of public opinion.

Aminu Tambuwal said he refuses to be coerced into silence, stressing that no amount of intimidation will make him abandon his commitment to transparency and good governance. He labeled the allegations as baseless, asserting that those behind them are desperate to rewrite history for their own political gain. Tambuwal vowed to fight both legally and politically, insisting the truth will ultimately prevail.

Tambuwal Questions EFCC’s Neutrality

Aminu Tambuwal openly questioned the EFCC’s independence, accusing the anti-graft body of becoming an instrument for selective prosecution. He argued that the commission’s recent actions against him raise troubling questions about its impartiality, especially in cases involving politically exposed persons. According to him, the EFCC’s focus on certain individuals while ignoring others with glaring corruption cases suggests a dangerous double standard.

Aminu Tambuwal challenged the EFCC to release credible evidence to support its claims rather than relying on media trials designed to damage reputations before court judgments are made. He warned that if the commission continues to operate as a political attack dog, its credibility will erode further, weakening Nigeria’s overall anti-corruption fight.

Tambuwal Vows to Defend His Legacy

Aminu Tambuwal stressed that his political record is one of integrity, service delivery, and progressive governance during his tenure as governor of Sokoto State. He recounted achievements in education, healthcare, infrastructure, and economic development, arguing that such a legacy cannot be erased by politically motivated accusations. His administration, he said, was marked by fiscal responsibility and adherence to due process in all state dealings.

Aminu Tambuwal described himself as a man who entered public service with a mission to uplift the lives of ordinary Nigerians, not to enrich himself. He argued that history would vindicate him, and no campaign of defamation could erase the tangible impact he left in Sokoto State and beyond.

EFCC Under Pressure Over Credibility Crisis

Aminu Tambuwal noted that the EFCC’s recent controversies — including botched investigations, politically charged arrests, and selective targeting — have eroded public trust in the commission. He emphasized that Nigerians are beginning to see through what he called “stage-managed corruption dramas” that fail to deliver convictions but succeed in destroying reputations.

Aminu Tambuwal warned that if the EFCC continues down this path, it risks becoming a pawn in the hands of desperate politicians instead of a neutral defender of the nation’s resources. He urged reform within the agency to ensure investigations are driven by facts, not political agendas.

The Political Undertone of Corruption Cases

Aminu Tambuwal pointed out that corruption cases in Nigeria have become powerful political tools, wielded against opponents ahead of elections or during internal party disputes. He accused some political figures of using the EFCC to weaken rivals by tainting their public image long before court verdicts are reached.

Aminu Tambuwal argued that such tactics undermine democracy, erode public trust in justice institutions, and weaken the rule of law. He called on Nigerians to remain vigilant and demand that anti-graft agencies operate above politics to maintain the sanctity of the democratic process.

Tambuwal Sends Strong Warning to Political Opponents

Aminu Tambuwal warned those behind the campaign against him that their strategy will backfire, as Nigerians are becoming more politically aware and capable of distinguishing between truth and propaganda. He said the era when false allegations could derail political careers without scrutiny is over.

Aminu Tambuwal concluded by affirming his readiness to confront the matter in court and before the public, promising to expose the political machinery driving the allegations. He assured his supporters that he remains steadfast, resilient, and focused on delivering effective representation in the Senate despite the distractions.
