First Lady Oluremi Tinubu Urges Religious Leaders to Promote Peace and Guidance Through Prayers and Counseling

Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, has called on religious leaders to focus on promoting peace and offering guidance to the government through prayers and counseling. Speaking at the opening of the four-day International Conference of the African Biblical Leadership Initiative (ABLI) in Abuja, the First Lady emphasized the importance of constructive engagement with political leaders, urging faith leaders to avoid casting curses or insults.

The conference, which aims to explore leadership challenges in Africa, brought together prominent figures from various religious and political backgrounds. Oluremi Tinubu, represented by Princess Gloria Akobundu, the National Coordinator and CEO of New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD), highlighted the need for spiritual leaders to adopt a Christ-like approach by praying for those in power and promoting unity within society.

Spiritual Leadership and its Role in Governance

Oluremi Tinubu’s speech emphasized the crucial role of spiritual leaders in shaping societal values and governance. She called on religious leaders to not only guide their congregations but also to act as moral compasses for those in government. According to Tinubu, religious leaders have a responsibility to foster peace and offer constructive feedback to governments rather than resorting to criticism or condemnation.

The First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu pointed out that Africa faces numerous leadership challenges, many of which could be addressed through collaboration between religious institutions and government bodies. By working together, she believes that both sectors can ensure a more just, peaceful, and developed society.

Oluremi Tinubu: A Call for Prayer and Constructive Criticism

In her address, Oluremi Tinubu stressed the importance of prayer as a tool for positive change in governance. She encouraged religious leaders to pray fervently for those in power, supporting them through spiritual guidance rather than criticizing them openly. According to Oluremi Tinubu, spiritual leaders should speak truth to power in a respectful manner, providing counsel that would inspire the government to improve governance.

Oluremi Tinubu’s message also focused on the need for religious leaders to align their actions with the teachings of Christ, emphasizing that their role is to build and foster peace rather than creating division. She urged them to be patient, peaceful, and deliberate in their approach to engaging with leaders at all levels.

Challenges Facing Leadership in Africa

Oluremi Tinubu lamented the numerous challenges plaguing leadership in Africa, ranging from corruption and inefficiency to lack of accountability. She noted that these issues require urgent attention, and religious leaders can play a pivotal role in driving reform by offering sound counsel and spiritual support to governments. By engaging in meaningful dialogue, faith-based leaders can help bridge the gap between the people and the government.

Oluremi Tinubu further noted that many of these leadership challenges could be overcome if both spiritual and political leaders worked in unison to address systemic issues. This partnership, she believes, is key to ensuring long-term development and prosperity for Africa.

Promoting Unity Through Faith and Governance

Oluremi Tinubu’s message at the ABLI conference emphasized the need for collaboration between religious and political institutions to promote unity and development. She urged religious leaders to act as bridges between the government and the citizens, fostering understanding and peace. Oluremi Tinubu’s speech highlighted that faith leaders must lead by example, promoting dialogue and unity, especially in times of political and social turmoil.

Oluremi Tinubu’s address also called on citizens to support the government through prayers and peaceful engagements. By promoting unity and collective effort, Oluremi Tinubu believes Nigeria and Africa at large can overcome the leadership challenges currently facing the continent.

ABLI Conference: A Platform for Leadership Solutions

The African Biblical Leadership Initiative (ABLI) conference, held in Abuja, serves as a platform for discussing leadership challenges in Africa and exploring solutions rooted in biblical principles. The four-day event brings together leaders from various sectors, including religious, political, and academic circles, to collaborate on developing sustainable leadership models for Africa’s future.

As the conference continues, key topics such as governance, accountability, and the role of spirituality in leadership are expected to be discussed. Tinubu’s opening message set the tone for these discussions, emphasizing that religious leaders have a key role to play in supporting and guiding the government towards more effective and just leadership practices.
