Federal Government Tightens Rules on SS3 Entry- “No Transfers Allowed"

has announced a nationwide ban on the admission and transfer of students into Senior Secondary School Three (SS3) in both public and private secondary schools across Nigeria. Federal Government explained that the policy is a direct response to the alarming rise in examination malpractice that has continued to erode the credibility of national and external examinations.

Federal Government stated that the directive takes immediate effect and applies uniformly across federal, state, and privately owned schools. Federal Government noted that unchecked late admissions into SS3 have become a major loophole exploited by unscrupulous schools, parents, and exam syndicates seeking to gain unfair advantages for candidates.

FG emphasized that the ban is not intended to punish genuine learners but to protect the integrity of the education system. Federal Government maintained that students are expected to complete the full cycle of senior secondary education in one school to ensure proper academic monitoring and continuous assessment.

Federal Government Targets Special Centres Behind Exam Malpractice

FG disclosed that the new policy specifically targets so-called “special centres” that have become notorious for facilitating examination malpractice. Federal Government revealed that these centres often admit or transfer students into SS3 shortly before examinations such as WAEC and NECO under questionable arrangements.

FG explained that investigations showed many of the transfers lack proper academic documentation, including valid continuous assessment records. Federal Government warned that such practices undermine academic standards and compromise the fairness of national examinations.

FG further cautioned that schools found violating the ban will face strict sanctions, including possible withdrawal of approval and other regulatory actions. Federal Government stressed that enforcement will be rigorous to ensure full compliance nationwide.

FG Moves to Protect Exam Integrity Nationwide

FG reiterated that the SS3 admission ban forms part of broader efforts to safeguard the integrity of examinations and restore confidence in Nigeria’s education sector. FG noted that continuous assessment and structured learning are essential components of credible student evaluation.

FG advised parents and guardians to plan early for their children’s education and avoid last-minute school changes at the SS3 level. Federal Government made it clear that exceptions to the policy will not be entertained, regardless of circumstances.

FG expressed confidence that, despite initial resistance or inconvenience, the policy will strengthen discipline, promote merit-based assessment, and reduce examination malpractice. FG concluded that protecting exam integrity is critical to building a fair, credible, and globally respected Nigerian education system.
