Federal Government Drop New School Calendar, Ban Textbook-Workbook Combo — Parents Breathe Small Relief

Federal Government don finally talk say dem wan put order for education matter, as dem announce national standardized academic calendar wey go make schools across Nigeria dey follow one timetable. No more this one dey resume while another dey do valedictory service. According to FG, na to bring sanity come classroom be this move.

Education Minister, Tunji Alausa, and im deputy, Suwaiba Ahmed, drop the gist on Friday, say the policy na part of bigger plan to reduce wahala and money pressure for parents, while still making students sabi book well-well. Dem say education no suppose drain pocket like bad generator.

Dem also talk say graduation ceremony go reduce small. Only Primary Six, JSS 3 and SS 3 go dey do full celebration. Other classes go collect result quietly and waka go house. FG say school na learning place, no be party center every term.

Textbook Go Last 4–6 Years, Workbook Join Prohibited List

One major gbege wey federal government address na this habit of selling textbook plus workbook as package. Government don ban am straight. From now, textbook na textbook; workbook na workbook. Parents wey dey buy same book every year because child don write inside am, dem go rest small now.

Under the new policy, textbooks must be strong, reusable and high quality, fit last between four to six years. Meaning say junior brother fit use senior brother own book without fight. federal government say this go reduce how parents dey buy new books every session like fuel.

Government also yarn say dem no wan see textbook publishers dey change font, color or cover every year just to force parents buy new edition. If dem wan revise book, e must be serious content update, no be “cosmetic surgery”.

Federal Government Promise Better Quality, Less Billing for Parents

Apart from calendar and book matter, the policy also touch assessment, quality assurance and instructional materials. Federal government say dem wan make sure say wetin students dey read dey correct, relevant and useful — no more trial-and-error education.

Dem acknowledge work from agencies like UBEC and NERDC, say dem dey collaborate to ensure materials reach every corner of the country, no matter the state. According to federal government, education suppose be fair, affordable and accessible for everybody.
