A midnight security operation in Filin-Dabo village, located in the Dei-Dei area of FCT Abuja, resulted in the deaths of three notorious armed robbers following a violent gun battle with law enforcement officers. The operation, which took place on February 12, 2025, was carried out by the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command in collaboration with the military, Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), and local vigilante groups.
The coordinated response led to the recovery of several weapons and other incriminating items, reinforcing the authorities’ commitment to eradicating crime in the FCT.
Swift Police Response to Distress Call
At approximately 11:50 PM on February 12, a distress call was placed to the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Dei-Dei ‘A’ Division, reporting an ongoing armed robbery in Filin-Dabo village. The alert prompted the DPO to immediately contact the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit, which then mobilized a well-coordinated response team.
The security unit, consisting of operatives from the 102 Battalion of the Guards Brigade, CJTF, and local vigilante members, swiftly deployed to the crime scene. Upon arrival, they encountered a six-man gang attempting to flee into nearby bushes. However, the criminals ambushed the operatives, triggering a fierce exchange of gunfire.
Gun Battle Leaves Three Robbers Dead
As the armed gang engaged the security team in a desperate bid to escape, law enforcement personnel retaliated with superior firepower. The intense confrontation lasted several minutes, resulting in three of the suspects sustaining critical gunshot wounds.
Despite emergency medical intervention, the three suspects were later confirmed dead upon arrival at Kubwa General Hospital. The remaining three gang members, who suffered varying degrees of injuries, are currently receiving medical treatment under tight security surveillance. Investigations are ongoing to determine their possible links to other criminal networks within the FCT.
Weapons and Other Items Recovered
Following the operation, security operatives recovered a cache of weapons and other incriminating items from the scene. These include:
One AK-47 rifle with a defaced breech number
Three loaded magazines containing 19 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition
Two locally fabricated pistols
Two sharp-edged knives
One taser
One mobile phone
Assorted charms suspected to be used for fortification
Dried leaves believed to be Indian hemp
The recovery of these items highlights the gang’s level of preparedness and their potential for committing violent crimes within the FCT and beyond.
