Both leaders underscored the necessity of robust efforts to counter misinformation, which they identified as a significant threat to the Commission’s work and the nation at large.

Malagi commended the EFCC for its relentless fight against economic and financial crimes, noting that the impact of the Commission’s work is undeniable. He praised the launch of the radio station as a strategic move to combat false narratives and misinformation about the EFCC’s activities. “This initiative empowers the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to directly communicate its achievements and challenges, ensuring the public receives accurate information,” Malagi stated. He emphasized that the focus on advocacy, enlightenment, and sensitization through the radio medium would enhance public understanding and support for the EFCC’s efforts.

A Strategic Move Against Misinformation

Minister Malagi highlighted the importance of accurate information dissemination in the fight against fake news. He lauded the EFCC’s decision to launch its radio station, viewing it as a proactive step towards controlling the narrative surrounding its operations. “Radio is the simplest way to reach a larger audience,” he noted, expressing optimism that the station would play a pivotal role in debunking misinformation and promoting transparency.

He assured the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission of ongoing support and collaboration from the Ministry of Information and National Orientation, committing to assist in ensuring the radio station achieves its goals. “We will do our best to support you in informing, enlightening, and sanitizing the public. Accurate information is crucial, and I urge other stations to support this initiative,” Malagi added. His remarks underscored the collective responsibility of various media outlets in maintaining the integrity of public information.

Enhancing Public Engagement Through Radio

Mr. Ola Olukoyede, the EFCC Chairman, reflected on the journey leading to the establishment of the radio station, describing its commissioning as a significant milestone for the Commission. He echoed Malagi’s sentiments on the damaging effects of fake news, stressing that the radio station would enable the EFCC to present its stories accurately and factually. “Communication is our strongest weapon against half-truths and distortions of our work,” Olukoyede asserted, highlighting the critical role of media in shaping public perception.

Olukoyede expressed gratitude to those who supported the realization of the radio station, particularly acknowledging the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) for its investment in the vision. He emphasized that the radio station is not a status symbol but a vital tool for mobilization against graft. “This platform will deepen our engagement with the public and enhance our fight against corruption. By expanding our coverage, we can better inform the public about our activities and encourage their participation,” he concluded, underscoring the importance of public involvement in the Commission’s anti-corruption efforts.
