EFCC Arrests 33 Suspected Internet Fraudsters in Port Harcourt

In a major crackdown on cybercrime activities, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested 33 suspected internet fraudsters in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. The operatives of the Port Harcourt Zonal Directorate carried out a sting operation targeting hideouts in the Iwofe and Ogboro areas of the city. The arrests were made based on credible intelligence reports indicating the involvement of these individuals in internet fraud, popularly referred to as “Yahoo Yahoo” in Nigeria.

According to EFCC officials, the operation was part of an ongoing effort to curb cybercrimes, which have been on the rise in the region. The arrested suspects are said to have used various schemes to defraud unsuspecting victims, both locally and internationally. Items Recovered: Fake Dollars, FBI Stamps, and More

During the raid, the EFCC recovered several incriminating items from the suspects. Among the items seized were numerous mobile phones, laptops, and counterfeit United States Dollars. Authorities also discovered fake stamps purportedly from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Nigerian Customs Service, airport clearance authorities, and international courier services such as DHL and FedEx. These items are believed to have been used by the suspects to enhance the credibility of their fraudulent activities.

In addition to the fake documents, the EFCC operatives also impounded two vehicles from the suspects. The use of such high-end items points to the growing sophistication of internet fraudsters, who often pose as legitimate businesspeople or government officials to lure their victims. The recovery of these items will be crucial in building a strong case against the arrested individuals.
