Edo Governor-Elect Monday Okpebholo Enthusiastically Pledges to Proudly Continue Oshiomhole’s Acclaimed Legacy

Edo Governor-Elect, Monday Okpebholo, has vowed to continue the developmental strides initiated by former Governor Adams Oshiomhole. In a statement during his acceptance speech, Okpebholo emphasized his commitment to ensuring that Edo State will witness further transformation. “I will start where Adams Oshiomhole stopped, and I will try to emulate what Akpabio did in Akwa Ibom. Edo will see real transformation,” Okpebholo asserted.

This declaration comes as a reassurance to the people of Edo, many of whom hold Oshiomhole in high regard for his infrastructural achievements. Okpebholo’s alignment with Oshiomhole’s legacy positions him as a continuation of a governance model centered around infrastructural development and transparency. The Governor-elect’s promises are expected to further endear him to the electorate, who hope for tangible results.

Inspiration from Akwa Ibom: Emulating Akpabio’s Model

Okpebholo’s reference to Akwa Ibom’s former governor, Godswill Akpabio, underlines his vision of transformative governance. Akpabio is known for his massive infrastructural projects and efforts to turn Akwa Ibom into an industrial hub. By highlighting Akpabio’s accomplishments, Okpebholo has signaled his intent to replicate similar success in Edo State, leveraging local resources for sustainable development.

This strategy aims to foster growth across key sectors, including education, healthcare, and industrialization. Okpebholo’s focus on Akpabio’s governance style suggests a multi-sectoral approach that could position Edo as a leader in regional development, while enhancing public welfare through job creation and improved social services.

Monday Okpebholo’s Plans for Economic Transformation in Edo

The Governor-elect has outlined an ambitious economic blueprint aimed at revamping Edo State’s economy. According to Monday Okpebholo, the state’s vast untapped resources will be harnessed to create jobs, attract investments, and stimulate small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). The blueprint is expected to focus on agricultural reform, infrastructure, and industrialization to diversify Edo’s economy beyond its current reliance on oil and gas revenues.

In addition to focusing on agriculture and industry, Monday Okpebholo is keen on creating an enabling environment for foreign and local investors. By improving the ease of doing business and building public-private partnerships, Okpebholo aims to increase the state’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) and reduce its dependence on federal allocations.

Infrastructure and Social Services: Core of Okpebholo’s Agenda

Monday Okpebholo has set his sights on improving Edo’s infrastructure, particularly road networks, healthcare, and education. His administration plans to revitalize dilapidated public facilities and build new ones in both urban and rural areas. Monday Okpebholo’s approach to infrastructure development draws heavily from Oshiomhole’s achievements, with an added emphasis on modernizing the state’s healthcare and educational systems.

In healthcare, Monday Okpebholo has promised to improve service delivery by investing in more hospitals and health centers, particularly in underserved communities. He has also pledged to prioritize education by upgrading schools, training teachers, and providing scholarships to deserving students. The focus on social services is part of a broader agenda to enhance the quality of life for Edo’s residents.

Fostering Peace and Security in Edo State

Security remains a top concern for Edo State, and Okpebholo has pledged to tackle it head-on. He has outlined plans to strengthen the state’s security architecture by working closely with law enforcement agencies and community leaders. His administration intends to modernize policing with advanced surveillance systems, increased funding for local security outfits, and improved coordination among security agencies to curb crime and ensure public safety.

Additionally, Monday Okpebholo emphasized the need to address the root causes of insecurity, such as poverty and unemployment. By investing in youth empowerment programs and creating job opportunities, his administration hopes to steer Edo’s young population away from criminal activities and toward productive economic ventures.

Inclusive Governance and Transparency in Leadership

In his address, Monday Okpebholo reiterated his commitment to transparency and inclusivity in governance. He promised to run an open-door policy where the concerns of all Edo residents, irrespective of their political affiliations, would be heard and addressed. His administration seeks to promote accountability by ensuring that public funds are utilized efficiently and transparently.

This pledge of inclusivity extends to women and youth, whom Monday Okpebholo intends to empower through active participation in decision-making processes. He also assured the people of Edo that his government would be one of collaboration, where input from civil society, traditional leaders, and the private sector would guide policy-making to ensure that the needs of all are met.
