The combined Nigeria Security forces of the 82 Division Nigerian Army, Navy, Air Force, Nigerian Police, and the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps executed a meticulously planned operation to clear several camps of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed affiliate, the Eastern Security Network (ESN). The Nigeria Security targeted areas along Umulolo – Umukele – Amousu and Agbobu in Okigwe Local Government Area of Imo State. Despite facing challenges such as improvised explosive devices (IEDs), the troops successfully destroyed hideouts, dismantled an IED-making factory, and uncovered alarming evidence of terrorist activities.

During the thorough search of buildings utilized by the terrorist groups, signs of occultic practices and even acts of cannibalism were uncovered, shedding light on the dark underbelly of these extremist organizations. The recovery of rank badges belonging to two kidnapped policemen, who had been abducted along the Enugu-Port Harcourt road, provided a breakthrough in ongoing investigations. Additionally, the Nigeria Security seized Biafran currencies, counterfeit US Dollar bills, Biafran Liberation Army T-shirts, and other related insignia, further dismantling the infrastructure supporting these groups. Two suspects were apprehended, and the discovery of burnt policemen corpses underscored the gravity of the situation, prompting proper burial procedures.

In a separate incident highlighting the effectiveness of security measures, troops on night patrol in Owerri Metropolis successfully thwarted a kidnapping attempt by suspected IPOB/ESN terrorists. Engaging the criminals in a fierce gun battle, the troops forced the perpetrators to abandon their victim. The recovery of an AK-47 rifle with a magazine, a G-3 rifle with mounted magazines, and the apprehension of the vehicle used by the terrorists showcased the resilience and capability of the security forces in the face of imminent threats.

In a bid to fortify cordial civil-military relations and foster a peaceful society, Major General Hassan Taiwo Dada, the General Officer Commanding 82 Division Nigerian Army, embarked on a significant visit to Isiuzo-Amufu community in Enugu State on January 24, 2024. The visit was marked by an address to the community at the village square, where the GOC emphasized the crucial role of cooperation between the military and the community in addressing prevailing insecurity issues. During his address, Major General Dada assured the community of his unwavering commitment to resolving challenges such as herders and farmers clashes and youth restiveness within the region.

Highlighting the importance of community involvement, the GOC urged residents to actively support the military’s efforts to enhance security. Major General Dada extended an invitation to the people of the South East region, urging them to actively participate in ensuring the safety of their communities. To facilitate this engagement, he introduced the Emergency Line 193 with an option to press 2 for reporting. This move aligns with the broader goal of creating a secure environment, emphasizing the significance of timely, reliable, and credible information in the fight against insecurity. The assurance from the General Officer Commanding 82 Division Nigerian Army reinforces the commitment of the military to protect lives and property, underscoring the importance of constitutional roles within the bounds of the law.
