PDPGF Chairman Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed Condemns Tinubu’s Overreach, Demands Immediate Reversal of Fubara’s Suspension

(PDPGF) Chairman and Bauchi State Governor, Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, has launched a fierce criticism of President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, accusing him of deliberately fueling the political crisis in Rivers State. He blamed Tinubu for empowering the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, to act with impunity, claiming that the minister’s interference in Rivers politics is a direct reflection of the presidency’s agenda.

Governor Mohammed expressed outrage over the president’s silence, arguing that it signals complicity in Wike’s alleged efforts to undermine Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara. “He has become a law unto himself because he was playing out your script,” he declared, insisting that the presidency’s actions are a direct assault on democracy and opposition-led states.

PDPGF Chairman Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed: Suspension of Fubara is a Coup Against Democracy

PDPGF Chairman Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed has strongly condemned the suspension of Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, calling it an “unprecedented assault on democratic governance.” He asserted that President Tinubu’s nationwide address on March 18, 2025, announcing the removal of Fubara, his deputy, and the Rivers State House of Assembly was a reckless abuse of executive power.

The Bauchi governor argued that such an unconstitutional move erodes the legitimacy of elected governments and signals a dangerous shift toward authoritarianism. “This unwarranted but premeditated attack on Rivers State and the Peoples Democratic Party is today the greatest threat to democracy in Nigeria,” he warned, emphasizing that such actions, if unchecked, could plunge Nigeria into political instability.

Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed has thrown his full support behind the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), which has strongly opposed Tinubu’s intervention in Rivers State. He praised the NBA for rejecting the suspension of Fubara and vowed that the PDPGF would ensure that Section 305(3) of the Nigerian Constitution is subjected to judicial interpretation.

NBA President Mazi Afam Osigwe, SAN, has already declared that the removal of Fubara under the guise of emergency rule is unconstitutional. Governor Mohammed echoed this stance, stating, “A state of emergency must be invoked strictly within constitutional limits. The removal of elected officials under the pretext of emergency rule is unconstitutional and unacceptable.” He warned that failure to challenge the move in court would set a precedent for future executive overreach.

PDPGF Chairman Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed Warns of Political Consequences for Tinubu

Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed has warned that Tinubu’s intervention in Rivers politics will come with dire political consequences. He accused the APC-led federal government of using strong-arm tactics to weaken the PDP and consolidate power, stating that the opposition would not sit idly by while democracy is dismantled.

The Bauchi governor urged PDP leaders and Nigerians to resist what he called a “political coup.” He emphasized that “TOUCH ONE, TOUCH ALL” is the guiding principle of the PDPGF, signaling that the attack on Fubara is an attack on all opposition governors. “We stand in solidarity with Governor Fubara and the people of Rivers State. This injustice will not stand,” he declared, vowing to use every available legal and political mechanism to overturn the suspension.

PDPGF Chairman Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed Highlights Economic and Security Threats

Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed has raised serious concerns about the economic and security implications of the Rivers crisis. He warned that political instability in Rivers, a key oil-producing state, could disrupt Nigeria’s economy and deter foreign investors. “Political chaos in Rivers State is a ticking time bomb for the Nigerian economy,” he cautioned.

Furthermore, he highlighted the security risks posed by the political crisis, warning that continued instability could lead to violent protests, a resurgence of militancy, and threats to national security. “If this unconstitutional move is not reversed, it could embolden non-state actors, increase insecurity, and escalate the crisis beyond control,” he warned, urging the federal government to de-escalate tensions before the situation deteriorates further.

PDPGF Chairman Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed Demands Immediate Reversal of Fubara’s Suspension

Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed has called on President Tinubu to immediately reverse the suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his administration. He described the decision as a “grievous mistake” that must be corrected before irreparable damage is done to Nigeria’s democracy.

The PDPGF chairman also urged civil society organizations, legal bodies, and the international community to intervene in what he described as “an atrocious and retrograde decision.” He warned that history would judge those who remained silent while democracy was dismantled. “Mr. President must listen to wise counsel and rescind this unconstitutional decision before it is too late,” he declared, emphasizing that failure to do so could lead to heightened political and legal battles that would further destabilize the country.
