With the 2027 general elections barely two years away, political activities and permutations have begun to intensify across Nigeria. However, the Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Policy Communication, Daniel Bwala, has expressed absolute confidence that his principal’s return to power is inevitable.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Wednesday, Bwala asserted that no political figure in the country currently possesses the capacity to unseat the president Tinubu in the forthcoming polls.
“I have seen the political climate in Nigeria today, and I will speak to facts, not conjectures,” Bwala said. “There’s not a single politician who has the capacity to knock off President Bola Tinubu on all fronts.”
The presidential aide argued that Tinubu’s political network, strategic governance decisions, and regional influence have strengthened his position ahead of the 2027 race. He maintained that the president Tinubu’s administration had built alliances that cut across ethnic, religious, and political divides.
Opposition Forces Rally Ahead of 2027
Bwala’s comments come amid visible political realignments among opposition figures determined to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the next electoral cycle. Prominent names such as former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai, and former Senate President David Mark have all been linked to efforts to form a formidable coalition against Tinubu.
Some political analysts believe that such alliances, if well-coordinated, could pose a credible threat to the APC’s dominance. Meetings and behind-the-scenes consultations are reportedly ongoing to unite the fragmented opposition into a single force.
However, Bwala dismissed these efforts, insisting that President Tinubu remains the most formidable figure in Nigerian politics today. According to him, no combination of opposition candidates or coalitions has the nationwide political reach to overcome the president Tinubu’s stronghold in both the northern and southern regions.
Goodluck Jonathan’s Possible Return Sparks Speculation
Amid these political developments, there have been growing calls from certain quarters for former President Goodluck Jonathan to contest the 2027 presidential election. Jonathan, who left office in 2015 after losing to Muhammadu Buhari, has since become a respected international figure, engaging in peacekeeping and democracy advocacy missions across Africa and beyond.
While Jonathan himself has not publicly indicated any interest in returning to active politics, Bwala warned that such a move could tarnish the statesmanlike reputation he has painstakingly built since leaving office. He accused unnamed individuals of attempting to lure Jonathan back into partisan politics for their own selfish political gains.
“Some unscrupulous elements are trying to hoodwink former President Goodluck Jonathan to come into politics so they can destroy the reputation he has been building after he left government by becoming an international figure globally,” Bwala said.
Bwala Questions Motives of Jonathan’s Northern Supporters
Bwala expressed skepticism about the sincerity of those reportedly encouraging Jonathan to return to the political arena. He alleged that some of these same northern political actors were instrumental in his defeat in 2015.
“The elements that are going to him in the North, asking him to come and run, were they not the ones that chased him away? What hope does he have that this time round, they are calling him because they mean well for him?” Bwala queried.
The presidential aide suggested that Jonathan’s global profile as a respected elder statesman should not be risked for another presidential bid, particularly in a political climate he described as “ruthless and divisive.”
Tinubu’s Consolidating Strength Ahead of 2027
Bwala’s confidence in Tinubu’s political dominance stems from what he described as the president’s ability to forge strong alliances and command loyalty across Nigeria’s geopolitical zones. According to him, Tinubu’s political style — built on consensus, negotiation, and inclusion — has positioned him as a unifying figure despite the country’s polarized political environment.
The 2027 race, Bwala argued, will be less about party labels and more about the ability of a candidate to connect with all segments of the Nigerian populace. In his view, Tinubu’s track record, political dexterity, and extensive grassroots networks make him virtually unbeatable.
Whether the opposition can overcome internal rivalries and form a united front remains to be seen. For now, voices like Bwala’s are projecting supreme confidence that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will secure a second term without serious threat from any political opponent.
