Prominent Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain and former Deputy National Chairman, Chief Bode George, has strongly criticized the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, for overseeing the sealing of the PDP campaign office in Abuja. George, speaking at a press briefing on Sunday, described the incident as a “betrayal of trust” and accused Wike of undermining party unity.
Bode George expressed disappointment that a senior PDP figure could allow such a symbolic building—PDP’s Legacy House in Maitama—to be locked up by the FCT Administration. “As a serving Minister and a prominent figure in the PDP, it is shocking and painful that Wike allowed the FCTA to seal the campaign office of our party. Even if there were rent issues, he should have quietly settled it to show commitment and loyalty,” Bode George declared.
He described the act as a disgrace, especially coming from someone whose political career was built entirely within the PDP. According to Bode George, the party that nurtured Wike to national prominence deserves better treatment, not humiliation orchestrated by one of its own.
You Don’t Lock Your Family House’ — George Laments
Drawing on a cultural analogy, Chief Bode George likened Wike’s action to sealing off his ancestral family home over a minor issue that could have been resolved amicably. “It’s like going back to your village and your family house hasn’t paid some ground rent, and you, as the local government chairman, lock it up. How much were we owing? Seven million naira — which you could easily pay,” he said.
Bode George emphasized that the amount in question was not substantial enough to warrant such a drastic measure, suggesting the act was motivated by something more sinister. “This is the party that brought you to life. The same PDP made you a local government chairman, chief of staff, two-term governor, and Minister. How then do you repay that loyalty by locking up the same party’s facility?” he asked.
He warned that actions like these do not just embarrass the party but also send a dangerous signal to grassroots members who may begin to question the party’s internal cohesion and leadership integrity.
Political Double-Dealing and Party Disloyalty
Bode George didn’t stop at condemning the sealing of the secretariat; he went further to question Wike’s political allegiance. Despite holding a PDP membership card, Wike continues to operate within the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led Federal Executive Council (FEC), frequently appearing at events alongside APC leaders and President Bola Tinubu.
“You cannot dine with the APC in the daytime and pretend to be a PDP loyalist at night. Wike should choose a side,” George insisted. He urged the party’s leadership to take a clear stand on members who are allegedly working at cross-purposes and undermining the PDP from within.
According to Bode George, Wike’s ongoing ambiguity is not only harming the image of the PDP but also creating internal divisions that could hurt the party’s chances in the 2027 general elections. “Party discipline and ideological clarity are essential if the PDP is to regain its lost ground,” he stated.
Calls for Sanctions and Party Reforms
Amid the growing controversy, Bode George called on the PDP’s National Working Committee (NWC) and Board of Trustees (BoT) to take decisive steps. He advocated for sanctions against erring members who undermine the party’s goals and questioned the party’s ability to enforce discipline when necessary.
“This is not just about Wike. It’s about protecting the soul and structure of the PDP. If you cannot defend your own house, then don’t expect people to take you seriously as an alternative to the ruling party,” he warned.
George further emphasized that the party must redefine its internal policies and commitment to loyalty if it hopes to present a united front in the next election cycle. “The days of political fence-sitting must end. People must be made to commit fully or step aside,” he added.
NEC Meeting Disrupted, PDP Faces Internal Strains
The sealing of the PDP secretariat came just hours before the party was scheduled to hold a crucial National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, which many believe was deliberate. George described the timing as “malicious” and “politically calculated to destabilize the party’s internal deliberations.”
Political observers suggest that the incident may further widen the rift between the mainstream PDP leadership and pro-Wike factions. Already, murmurs within the party indicate deep dissatisfaction with Wike’s dual political posture, and pressure is mounting on the leadership to act.
As the PDP grapples with these internal challenges, Bode George’s intervention adds weight to calls for clarity and discipline. Whether the party heeds his advice or continues to tiptoe around the Wike controversy remains to be seen—but one thing is clear: the cracks within the PDP are growing, and failure to mend them swiftly could prove costly in 2027.
