Aviation Minister Festus Keyamo - Federal Government Unveils Plan to Transform Aviation Education with NCAT Decentralization in Nigeria's Six Geopolitical Zones

Festus Keyamo, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, has announced the Federal Government’s innovative plan to decentralize the Nigeria College of Aviation Technology (NCAT) in Zaria. The initiative, which aims to establish campuses across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones, is designed to address critical challenges such as overcrowding and inadequate infrastructure. By spreading NCAT’s operations, the government seeks to enhance regional inclusion and make aviation training accessible to students nationwide, regardless of their location.

According to Festus Keyamo, this decentralization strategy is a deliberate effort to improve access to aviation education while fostering opportunities for aspiring professionals in underserved areas. He emphasized that removing geographical barriers will ensure that more Nigerians can pursue careers in the aviation sector, ultimately contributing to the nation’s economic growth and positioning Nigeria as a leader in aviation training within Africa.

Festus Keyamo Highlights Accommodation Crisis in Zaria

Festus Keyamo identified inadequate accommodation for students as one of the major issues necessitating the decentralization of NCAT. He disclosed that the government had resorted to purchasing hotel spaces in Zaria to temporarily house students due to the shortage of hostel facilities.

“This is not a sustainable solution,” Keyamo stated, adding that decentralizing the college will ensure students have better living conditions in campuses closer to their regions. He emphasized that the welfare of students remains a priority, and the government is committed to resolving these challenges comprehensively.

Festus Keyamo: Regional Expansion to Bridge Gaps

Festus Keyamo outlined the government’s vision of establishing NCAT campuses in all six geopolitical zones—North-West, North-East, North-Central, South-West, South-East, and South-South. He noted that this expansion is a deliberate effort to democratize access to aviation education and reduce the pressure on the Zaria campus.

“This is not just about expanding infrastructure; it’s about creating opportunities for every Nigerian to contribute to the aviation sector, irrespective of their location,” Keyamo said. He expressed confidence that this strategic move would transform the aviation training landscape in Nigeria.

Festus Keyamo on Boosting Aviation Education

Festus Keyamo emphasized the transformative potential of decentralizing NCAT for Nigeria’s aviation sector. He noted that the plan would allow the institution to admit more students and meet the growing demand for skilled aviation professionals in the country.

“With this initiative, we are not only addressing capacity constraints but also positioning Nigeria as a center for aviation training excellence in Africa,” Keyamo remarked. He assured stakeholders that the government would invest in state-of-the-art facilities and high-quality training programs to maintain NCAT’s reputation.

Festus Keyamo: Decentralization Will Drive Regional Growth

Festus Keyamo stressed the economic and developmental benefits of decentralizing NCAT. He stated that establishing campuses in various regions would create jobs, stimulate local economies, and enhance regional development.

“This is a win-win for the aviation sector and the Nigerian economy,” Keyamo declared. He further explained that the increased activity from new campuses would attract investments, foster local partnerships, and provide a platform for regional innovation in aviation and aerospace technologies.

Keyamo: Nigeria Aims for Global Aviation Leadership

Festus Keyamo concluded by framing the decentralization of NCAT as a step toward global competitiveness. He reiterated the government’s commitment to aligning Nigeria’s aviation education with international standards to produce professionals capable of thriving in a globalized industry.

With this initiative, we are not just solving local challenges; we are creating a framework for Nigeria to become a leader in aviation training worldwide,” Keyamo asserted. He called on stakeholders to support the government’s vision and contribute to the realization of this ambitious project.
