ASUU Strike Hits UNILAG: Lecturers Complain of Missing Salary for Jan & Feb 2026

Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) for University of Lagos (UNILAG) don announce indefinite strike after dem accuse the university management of paying lecturers “amputated salaries” for January and February 2026. The union say the salary wey lecturers receive no complete and no match wetin dem suppose collect according to their agreement with government.

According to the union leaders, many lecturers notice say big part of their salary cut off without proper explanation. Dem say the matter don cause serious anger among members because lecturers still dey carry out their full academic duties despite the economic hardship wey dey affect the country.

ASUU UNILAG chapter say the strike go continue until the management correct the payment problem and pay every lecturer their full salary. Dem also call on the federal government and relevant authorities to quickly intervene so that the issue no go disturb academic activities for the university.

UNILAG Students Face Academic Uncertainty as ASUU Strike Begin

ASUU Accuse UNILAG Management of Unfair Salary Cuts

ASUU UNILAG chapter don strongly accuse the university management of implementing unfair salary reductions wey the union describe as “amputation of lecturers’ pay.” According to the union, the deduction happen suddenly and lecturers no receive any official explanation before the payment.

Union representatives explain say several meetings don happen between ASUU leaders and the university management, but the matter never get clear resolution. Dem claim say management promise to investigate the issue but nothing concrete don happen since the complaints begin.

Because of the delay, the union say dem get no option than to declare indefinite strike to press for immediate action. Dem also urge authorities to treat the issue with urgency so that normal academic activities for UNILAG fit resume without long disruption.
