TIn the ongoing efforts to combat insurgency and violence in Taraba State, troops of the 93 Battalion, under the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army, have apprehended a notorious gunrunner, Joshua Dutse Idah, aged 45. Idah, a key figure in the illegal arms trade network, was intercepted on 20 January 2024 in Ibi town of Ibi LGA. Upon his arrest, troops discovered a cache of weapons in his possession, including 1 PK Machine Gun, 399 rounds of 7.62 mm Special ammunition, and 3 AK 47 Rifle Magazines. Interrogation revealed Idah’s intentions to procure more arms, indicating the breadth of his criminal activities. This successful operation underscores the military’s commitment to dismantling illicit arms networks fueling violence in the region.

Disruption of Extremist Activities: Arrest of Janet Igohia and Associates

In a separate operation, troops deployed in Chanchanji acted on credible intelligence regarding extremist groups and insurgents’ activities in the area. Janet Igohia, aged 31, was apprehended on 25 January 2024 while collecting a ransom payment of one million, five hundred thousand naira (N1,500,000.00) intended for an abducted victim’s release. Igohia’s ties to notorious criminals, including her marriage to Voryor Gata, a prominent figure in a violent extremist group, shed light on the complex network of criminality in the region. This arrest not only disrupts ransom collection activities but also exposes the intertwined nature of criminal enterprises operating in southern Taraba.
