APC Tells Bala Mohammed on 2027: We’re Not Distracted by Politicking

The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State has dismissed claims by Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State that the party and the Federal Government are preoccupied with politicking ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The reaction came in a statement issued on Friday in Lagos by the APC State Publicity Secretary, Seye Oladejo, who described Governor Mohammed’s comments as “a misplaced outburst from a frustrated opposition.”

Oladejo insisted that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the ruling party remain resolute in their commitment to governance, stressing that their focus is on implementing bold reforms in the economy, security, infrastructure, and institutional development. He noted that it was regrettable for opposition leaders to accuse the government of neglecting governance when, according to him, the APC has chosen to “face the tough challenges of nation-building head-on.”

Tinubu’s Reforms at the Centre of Governance

Highlighting the Tinubu-led administration’s priorities, Oladejo said the APC government has initiated difficult but necessary reforms aimed at stabilising and transforming the economy. He explained that policies targeting foreign exchange stability, fuel subsidy removal, and investment in infrastructure demonstrate a deliberate strategy to lay a solid foundation for sustainable growth.

According to him, the administration is also tackling insecurity with renewed vigour by strengthening security architecture and supporting armed forces operations across volatile regions. He argued that these interventions reflect a government committed to governance rather than one distracted by the next election cycle.

Lagos as a Model of APC Governance

The Lagos APC spokesman further advised Governor Mohammed to look at Lagos State as a reference point for consistent and visionary governance under the party. He noted that Lagos, as a stronghold of the APC, has been transformed over the years through policies centred on economic expansion, urban renewal, and infrastructural development.

Oladejo maintained that the progress achieved in Lagos stands as a testament to the APC’s ability to deliver on its promises when given the opportunity. He therefore urged opposition figures to shift focus from what he described as “grandstanding in the media” and instead emulate policies that drive people-centred development.

Opposition Urged to Focus on State Responsibilities

While acknowledging the right of opposition leaders to voice their opinions, the Lagos APC accused Governor Mohammed of neglecting his primary responsibility to Bauchi residents by chasing shadows at the national level. Oladejo emphasised that governance at state level should not be sacrificed for political brinkmanship.

He added that Nigerians expect leaders at all levels to deliver dividends of democracy rather than engage in “baseless attacks” against the ruling party. According to him, political relevance would best be secured through effective service delivery rather than through unfounded criticisms of the federal government.

Looking Ahead to 2027

Although Governor Mohammed has accused the APC of being fixated on the 2027 elections, the ruling party insists its primary attention remains on navigating Nigeria through challenging times. Oladejo made it clear that electoral politics will have its place in due time but, for now, governance is the undisputed priority.

He concluded that Nigerians will be the ultimate judges of which party or leader delivers results, stressing that the APC has no need to be drawn into premature political contests. Instead, he said, the party is determined to consolidate on reforms that will define Tinubu’s presidency and shape the nation’s future
