The All Progressives Congress (APC) has replaced Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, with former Katsina State Governor, Aminu Bello Masari, as Chairman of the party’s National Convention Central Coordination Committee ahead of its national convention scheduled for March 27 and 28, 2026. The decision reflects internal adjustments aimed at strengthening preparations for the highly anticipated party event.
The announcement was made by the APC National Secretary, Surajudeen Basiru, in a statement released on Friday. According to the party, the changes followed further consultations with its leadership and national stakeholders, underscoring ongoing efforts to ensure broad inclusion and effective coordination.
Leadership Reshuffle in APC Convention Planning Committee
Under the new arrangement, Aminu Bello Masari assumes the role of Chairman of the Central Coordination Committee, replacing Governor Hope Uzodimma, who had earlier been appointed to lead the body. Uzodimma will now serve as Treasurer of the committee, a position the party said remains critical to the convention’s success.
The APC explained that the reconstitution of the committee was part of a broader review process. Basiru stated that the party’s leadership considered inputs from various stakeholders before finalising the new structure, indicating a consensus-driven approach in managing internal affairs.
Party officials maintain that the reshuffle does not diminish the standing of any member but is instead intended to optimise experience and balance within the committee as preparations intensify.
Expanded Membership and Key Appointments
In addition to the leadership changes, the APC expanded the membership of the Central Coordination Committee from 73 to 90 members. The party said this expansion was designed to accommodate more stakeholders and ensure wider representation across its structures nationwide.
Former Senate President, Anyim Pius Anyim, was appointed Vice Chairman I of the committee, while Kwara State Governor and Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, was named Vice Chairman II. Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, was retained as Secretary of the committee, maintaining continuity in the administrative leadership.
The party also disclosed that various sub-committees under the Central Coordination Committee would be constituted and announced in due course to handle specific aspects of the convention process.
Roadmap to the 2026 APC National Convention
The APC has released an adjusted schedule for its nationwide congresses, national convention, and related activities ahead of the March 2026 event. The party noted that forms for expression of interest and nomination would be available for purchase and collection at the Directorate of Organisation at the APC National Secretariat.
Party leaders say the updated timetable and restructured committee are part of deliberate efforts to ensure a smooth, transparent, and inclusive convention process. The national convention is expected to play a significant role in shaping the APC’s leadership direction and internal cohesion ahead of future political engagements.
