APC: PDP Now a “Lifeless Carcass” as Key Members Jump Ship

The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has launched a scathing attack on the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), describing the main opposition as a “lifeless political carcass” struggling to survive an ongoing wave of defections by its prominent members.

In a statement issued on Saturday, Seye Oladejo, the spokesperson for the Lagos APC, mocked the PDP for allegedly living in denial over what he called the “inevitable collapse” of a party built on deceit and lack of ideology. According to him, those remaining in the PDP are merely “undertakers” waiting to bury the opposition once and for all.

“The PDP’s claim that defections cannot shake it is laughable,” Oladejo said. “What is happening today is not just political migration but the collapse of a structure built on betrayal and confusion. Even long-time members have lost faith in a party that has failed to reform itself.”

APC Claims Defections Reflect Tinubu’s Rising Popularity

Oladejo further asserted that the series of defections to the APC, including by top PDP figures such as former governors, lawmakers, and ex-vice-presidential candidate Ifeanyi Okowa, demonstrates growing confidence in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s leadership and his “Renewed Hope” agenda.

He argued that Nigerians have begun to reject what he termed the PDP’s “empty rhetoric and propaganda,” instead embracing a party that promises progress and national renewal. “The defections are not just political victories for the APC,” he said, “but endorsements of our people-centred governance and stability.”

The APC spokesperson urged the PDP to “learn to walk alone on the dark, bumpy road to 2027,” adding that the party should conduct a “post-mortem” of its failures and accept that its political influence has dwindled. “The party is obviously over for what was once the largest in Africa. The sooner it accepts that reality, the less humiliating its final exit will be,” Oladejo added.

PDP’s Decline Sparks Debate on Nigeria’s Opposition Strength

The PDP, once Nigeria’s dominant political force, has faced a steady stream of high-profile defections since the 2023 general elections. Analysts note that this decline raises concerns about the state of the opposition in Nigeria’s democracy, as the APC consolidates power nationwide.

While the PDP leadership has downplayed the defections, insisting that the party remains strong and united, critics argue that its internal disunity and leadership crises have severely weakened its base. Oladejo’s comments, though politically charged, reflect growing public sentiment that the PDP must reinvent itself or risk total irrelevance ahead of the 2027 elections.

For now, the APC appears confident in its hold on national politics — portraying itself as the custodian of stability, reform, and renewed national direction. Whether the PDP can rebuild from within or continues its downward spiral remains a defining question for Nigeria’s political future.
