The All Progressives Congress (APC) has announced a major milestone in its ongoing nationwide digital membership registration exercise, recording over two million digitally verified members within a short period of its launch. The disclosure was made on Monday by the party’s National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru, during a media briefing at the APC National Secretariat in Abuja, underscoring what party leaders described as a renewed wave of grassroots mobilization.
According to Senator Basiru, the digital registration initiative was designed to modernize the party’s membership database, eliminate duplications, and ensure transparency in internal processes. He explained that the adoption of digital technology marks a decisive shift from manual systems that had, in the past, been prone to errors and disputes, particularly during primaries and congresses.
The APC leadership noted that the impressive figure reflects growing public interest in the ruling party, especially ahead of future electoral contests. Basiru emphasized that the registration exercise remains ongoing nationwide, expressing confidence that the number of verified members would rise significantly as more Nigerians complete the process across states and local government areas.
Digital Registration as a Tool for Party Reforms
Senator Basiru described the digital membership registration as a critical component of the APC’s broader internal reforms aimed at strengthening party structures from the ward level to the national headquarters. He said the initiative aligns with the party’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and efficiency in managing its affairs in a rapidly evolving political environment.
He explained that each registered member undergoes a verification process that captures essential personal and biometric details, ensuring the credibility of the database. According to him, this system will help the party prevent identity fraud, streamline internal decision-making, and improve communication between the leadership and grassroots members.
Party officials present at the briefing added that the digital platform also provides real-time data, enabling the APC to assess membership strength across regions and design more targeted political strategies. They maintained that the exercise would ultimately deepen internal democracy and reduce conflicts that often arise from disputed membership lists.
Implications for Future Elections and Party Growth
The APC leadership believes the growing number of digitally verified members positions the party more favorably ahead of upcoming electoral cycles. Senator Basiru noted that a credible and comprehensive membership register is essential for conducting transparent primaries and selecting candidates that genuinely reflect the will of party members.
He further stated that the digital register would enhance the party’s capacity for effective mobilization during elections, as it allows for accurate mapping of supporters and improved coordination of campaign activities. According to him, this development strengthens the APC’s institutional framework and reinforces its status as a modern, data-driven political organization.
As the registration exercise continues, the APC has urged its members nationwide to embrace the digital process and participate actively. Party leaders expressed optimism that sustained engagement at the grassroots level would not only expand the party’s membership base but also consolidate its influence across the country’s political landscape.
