APC Hires Private Firm for Membership E-Registration

APC Hires Private Firm for Membership E-Registration

In a significant move to modernize its internal processes, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has commenced a nationwide digital membership registration exercise. The party has contracted Tunmef Global Limited, an ICT consultancy firm, to spearhead the initiative, aimed at providing a comprehensive, verifiable, and up-to-date membership database ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The agreement was formalized at the APC National Secretariat in Abuja, with key party leaders in attendance, including National Chairman Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State, and other governors and National Working Committee (NWC) members. The initiative, which transitions the APC from an analogue to a digital membership register, is seen as a major step in strengthening the party’s electoral strategies and internal democracy.

Ganduje and Uzodimma Highlight Benefits of E-Registration

Speaking at the agreement-signing event, Governor Hope Uzodimma, who also serves as Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum, emphasized the necessity of the digital transformation. He stated that the world is now in the era of a digital economy, digital politics, and digital social order, making it imperative for the APC to adopt a modernized membership system.

National Chairman Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje also underscored the importance of the initiative for election planning and party administration. He stressed that the e-registration exercise would provide the party with accurate scientific data, which would be crucial for membership verification, election strategizing, and even legal matters.

“Without proper documentation, we will just be beating about the bush. This exercise ensures that we have an organized membership register that can stand up to scrutiny,” Ganduje noted. He further added that the APC’s financial independence had enabled it to fund the project without external support.

APC’s Commitment to Strengthening Internal Democracy

The APC’s official X (formerly Twitter) account announced the agreement, calling it a strategic move to modernize and strengthen the party’s membership system. The transition from an analogue to a digital register is expected to eliminate irregularities, enhance transparency, and promote accountability within the party’s structure.

Ganduje reaffirmed the APC’s commitment to internal democracy, stating that the party is fully prepared for political competition.

“The APC is not a party that fears competition. Democracy thrives on contest, and we are ready to ensure our party remains strong and respected worldwide. Nigerians will decide in 2027,” he asserted.

The party leadership urged the consultant, Tunmef Global Limited, to ensure the project is completed within record time, reaffirming their confidence in the firm’s technical expertise.

Technical Aspects of the E-Registration Project

Providing an overview of the initiative, All Progressives Congress National Legal Adviser, Prof. AbdulKareem Kana, explained that the digital registration process would be linked to members’ National Identity Numbers (NINs). This integration, he said, would enable real-time verification and allow party officials to access members’ information at the touch of a button from any location.

“This project was proposed, approved by the governors, and endorsed by our leader, President Bola Tinubu. After a rigorous selection process, we chose Tunmef Global Limited for their expertise and capability to handle the assignment,” Kana stated.

He also highlighted that the party had raised the required funds internally, further demonstrating the APC’s ability to self-finance major initiatives without relying on external funding.

Implications for APC’s Future Political Strategy

With the 2027 general elections on the horizon, the APC’s adoption of a digitized membership register is expected to boost the party’s electoral preparation. Analysts believe that a scientific and verifiable database will provide the party with a strategic advantage in organizing primaries, mobilizing members, and tackling legal disputes related to membership claims.

Moreover, this move signals the APC’s intent to remain at the forefront of technological advancements in Nigerian politics. By adopting digital tools, the party aims to streamline operations, enhance credibility, and reinforce its position as Nigeria’s leading political party.

As the APC embarks on this transformative journey, stakeholders within the party and political observers will be keenly watching how effectively the e-registration system enhances party administration and contributes to the APC’s electoral fortunes in 2027.
