Andrew Wynne Denies Allegations of Regime Change Plot in Nigeria

Andrew Wynne, a British national recently declared wanted by the Nigeria Police Force, has vehemently denied allegations that he was involved in a plot to overthrow President Bola Tinubu’s democratically elected government. In an exclusive interview with Channels Television on Monday, Andrew Wynne described the accusations as baseless and expressed his readiness to cooperate with Nigerian authorities to clear his name.

He highlighted his long-standing presence in Abuja, where he has operated a bookshop at the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) offices for the last seven years without any interference from security forces. “I am not aware that I am a fugitive, I am not aware that I am running away from the law.

I have been visiting Nigeria for 25 years. I have had a bookshop at the NLC offices right at the center of Abuja for seven years and all that time, of course, the security forces have paid no interest in me,” Wynne said.

Andrew Wynne Offers to Engage in Dialogue with Nigerian Authorities

Amid the mounting allegations, Andrew Wynne has expressed his willingness to engage in dialogue with the Nigerian police, either digitally or in person, to address the accusations leveled against him. He stated that he is open to discussing the matter via digital platforms such as WhatsApp or Zoom, or even meeting officials at the Nigerian High Commission in London.

“I am more than happy to talk with the police, I am more than happy to have a discussion on WhatsApp or Zoom, I am more than happy to go to London and meet with officials from the Nigerian High Commission. If they want to start a conversation, then I think that is more than adequate,” Wynne asserted. His willingness to cooperate suggests a desire to resolve the issue amicably and to prove his innocence in the face of the serious allegations brought against him.

In a separate statement, Andrew Wynne’s Nigerian wife came to his defense, asserting that the accusations against her husband were unfounded and motivated by a personal vendetta. She claimed that a Nigerian individual, identified as Mr. Olumide, who allegedly owes her husband money, fabricated the allegations to avoid repaying the debt.

“We have been together for nine years, eight years of friendship before we finally got married last year. My husband is falsely accused, he has never been a terrorist. He is being accused because one Mr. Olumide is owing him and not ready to pay him,” she said. Wynne’s wife also noted that her husband had returned to the UK as per the expiration of his visa, contradicting claims that he fled the country to evade arrest. According to her, the legal battle over the debt is ongoing, further complicating the narrative presented by the Nigerian authorities.

Nigerian Police Accuse Andrew Wynne of Coordinating Subversive Activities

Despite Andrew Wynne’s denial, the Nigerian Police Force remains steadfast in its accusations. On Monday, Muyiwa Adejobi, the spokesperson for the Nigeria Police Force, accused Andrew Wynne of orchestrating a network of sleeper cells with the aim of destabilizing the government. According to Adejobi, Wynne had used his bookshop and a school as fronts for his subversive activities, with the ultimate goal of toppling the Tinubu administration.

Adejobi claimed that Andrew Wynne, along with his local coordinator, Lucky Ehis Obiyan, had fled the country following the initiation of a comprehensive investigation into their activities. “The Nigeria Police Force has launched a comprehensive investigation into the activities of foreign national and subversive elements plotting to undermine the democratically elected government in Nigeria through unconstitutional regime change and orchestrating violence across the country,” Adejobi stated.

The police further alleged that Andrew Wynne and his associates received substantial financial backing from foreign sources to destabilize the nation, leading to their declaration as wanted individuals and the commencement of a global manhunt to apprehend them.
