Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has formally joined the Accord Party after resigning from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), announcing his intention to seek a second term in office under his new platform. The announcement was made on Tuesday at the Government House in Osogbo, where he met with national and state leaders of the party.
Governor Ademola Adeleke Confirms Move After One Month
Governor Ademola Adeleke revealed that he formally joined Accord Party in early November after what he described as detailed consultations with political stakeholders and opinion leaders across the state.
According to a statement issued by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, the governor Adeleke stated that his decision aligns with the aspirations of supporters who he said had encouraged him to continue his administration’s policies through a new political platform. He added that his administration remains committed to what he termed “ongoing delivery of good governance and democratic dividends.”
Adeleke noted that he considered Accord a fitting platform due to its focus on citizens’ welfare, which resonates with the priorities of his administration since assuming office in 2022.
Adeleke Administration’s Priorities and Party Philosophy
While addressing Accord Party leaders, Adeleke said the party’s philosophy of welfarism mirrors the principles guiding his reforms in Osun State. He emphasized that people-centred governance remains the core of his administration, pointing to investments in infrastructure, workers’ welfare, and social services.
He stated that Accord Party would consolidate governance gains and ensure continuity beyond 2026. The governor Adeleke expressed confidence that the people of Osun would support the transition, citing widespread backing for his administration from various communities across the state.
Adeleke urged party members to sustain a united political structure as preparations for the 2026 elections intensify. He assured residents that his decision was not about political ambition alone but about preserving progress already recorded.
Exit from PDP and Future Political Direction
The governor Ademola Adeleke’s departure from the PDP followed persistent internal leadership issues at the national level, according to a resignation letter he submitted on November 4, 2025, and later made public. Adeleke appreciated the PDP for providing him with the platform through which he served as Senator and now Governor.
His exit marks a major political shift in Osun State’s dynamics ahead of the 2026 governorship election. Political analysts believe Adeleke’s decision to join Accord is expected to reshape alignments within the state’s political landscape as parties prepare for a competitive poll next year.
With this declaration, Governor Ademola Adeleke becomes the first major political figure in Osun State to confirm a 2026 governorship intention under a different party platform. The coming months are expected to determine how Accord Party organizes its political operations in anticipation of a potentially keen contest.
