ADC–Obidient Alliance Will Unseat APC in 2027, Says Odigie-Oyegun

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has expressed strong confidence that its growing collaboration with the Obidient Movement will bring an end to the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led federal government in the 2027 general elections. This optimism was voiced by Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, a chieftain of the ADC and former National Chairman of the APC, during a mass defection of Obidient Movement members into the ADC in Edo State.

The development comes amid increasing political realignments ahead of 2027, including the recent formal entry of former Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi, into the ADC. Party leaders and supporters described the alliance as a strategic move aimed at mobilising disenchanted Nigerians, particularly youths, around a shared agenda of national renewal and political reform.

Odigie-Oyegun: Youth-Driven Coalition Signals New Political Direction

Speaking on Monday in Benin, Chief Odigie-Oyegun said the influx of members of the Obidient Movement into the ADC demonstrated a growing determination among Nigerians to take ownership of the country’s political future. According to him, the calibre and commitment of those joining the party strengthened the belief that meaningful change was achievable through collective action.

He noted that the presence of politically active youths within the ADC marked a significant departure from past political movements driven largely by established elites. Odigie-Oyegun described the moment as a turning point, stating that the engagement of young people in large numbers showed readiness for nation-building and leadership renewal.

Reflecting on recent defections, including that of media personality Dele Momodu, the former APC chairman said the emerging coalition had reinforced his conviction that the ADC was on the right path. He stressed that dissatisfaction with the state of the nation should serve as a rallying point for all Nigerians seeking a new political order anchored on accountability and good governance.

Obidient Movement Backs ADC as Platform to Challenge APC

Also speaking at the event, the Edo State Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, Mr Asemota Idiogbe, said the ADC offered the most viable platform to confront the APC both at the state and national levels. He expressed confidence that the party had the structure and appeal required to mobilise voters and achieve electoral success in 2027.

Idiogbe stated that members of the movement were not driven by personal ambition or the pursuit of political appointments, but by a desire to strengthen a party they believed could deliver a better Nigeria. He added that the movement would leverage its grassroots influence to persuade Nigerians to support the ADC at the polls.

Expressing optimism about the future, Idiogbe said many members expected Peter Obi to emerge as the party’s presidential candidate and ultimately become president. He maintained that the Obidient Movement, which played a key role in Obi’s strong showing in the 2023 presidential election, had now fully merged into the ADC after helping to build the Labour Party in the past.

ADC Leaders Hail Defection as Boost to Electoral Prospects

The Edo State Chairman of the African Democratic Congress, Mr Kenneth Odion, welcomed the Obidient Movement into the party, describing the defection as a major boost to its electoral prospects. He said the development had positioned the ADC as a serious contender capable of mounting a strong challenge in future elections.

In her remarks, the State Woman Leader of the ADC, Mrs Faith Ebodaghe, portrayed the party as a rescue platform for Nigerians weary of economic hardship and insecurity. She urged women to take an active role in the political struggle, stressing that collective participation was essential to achieving change through the ballot.

Drawing on a biblical analogy, Ebodaghe said the African Democratic Congress was prepared to confront entrenched political power through voter mobilisation and civic engagement. She added that the party’s mission was to alleviate the suffering of citizens and change the prevailing political narrative through peaceful and democratic means.
