The National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Rauf Aregbesola, has called on Nigerians to embrace the party, assuring that an ADC-led government will bring an end to banditry and other violent crimes across the country.
Aregbesola gave the assurance in Ilesa, Osun State, on Wednesday shortly after revalidating his membership of the party at his Ward 8, Ifofin, in Ilesa East Local Government Area. The exercise formed part of the nationwide membership registration and revalidation programme of the ADC.
In a statement issued by the Chairman, ADC Directorate of Media and Publicity in Osun State, Oluwaseun Abosede, and obtained in Osogbo, Aregbesola said he chose the ADC because of its emphasis on discipline, integrity and sound values, which he described as critical to rescuing Nigeria from its present security and governance challenges.
ADC Will Lead Nigeria Out of Insecurity and Violence’
Speaking to supporters and party members, Aregbesola said the ADC is committed to enthroning a government that will confront insecurity head-on and prevent a recurrence of recent violent incidents in the country.
He specifically referred to the attack on a church in Kwara State, where unknown gunmen reportedly killed some worshippers and kidnapped others, describing such incidents as unacceptable and avoidable under a disciplined and responsible leadership. He urged Nigerians to unite behind a political platform that prioritises character and competence over personal interests and impunity.
According to the statement, “OGBENI (Aregbesola) appreciated the work done by the committee and urged every Nigerian to come on board for us to enthrone a good government that will end banditry, insecurity, and incidents like the one that occurred in Kwara, where some unknown gunmen attacked a church, killed some members, and kidnapped others.”
He further explained that the ADC did not descend from heaven but distinguished itself by adopting “character, courage, competence, discipline, and integrity” as the core of its political engagement and institutional conduct. He maintained that these values position the party as the platform that will lead Nigeria out of what he described as the current national “quagmire.”
ADC Unveils New Security-Proof Membership Cards and Online Registration
Earlier at the event, the Membership Registration and Revalidation Committee of the ADC, led by its Secretary, Senator Sodiq Yaradua, formally launched the new membership registration and revalidation exercise in Osun State.
Yaradua disclosed that the new ADC membership card contains 12 advanced security features designed to prevent duplication and ensure the integrity of party records. He noted that Aregbesola was the first person to be revalidated under the new system nationwide, a move he described as symbolic for the party’s renewed drive for internal order and credibility.
He added that an online platform for membership registration would soon be unveiled to ease access for both existing and prospective members, especially the youth and Nigerians in the diaspora. The initiative is expected to support the party’s grassroots mobilisation strategy ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The statement further noted that Hon. Kamil Akinlade Mudashir, Chairman of the Osun State ADC Membership Mobilisation, Revalidation and Registration Committee, personally supervised and revalidated Aregbesola’s membership at the event.
2027 Elections: Aregbesola Reiterates ADC’s Plan to Unseat Tinubu
Aregbesola’s renewed call for Nigerians to join the ADC comes against the backdrop of his earlier declaration that the party is determined to unseat President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.
In a report by opitanglobamedia on 13 September 2025, Aregbesola outlined a grassroots mobilisation strategy aimed at securing electoral victories for the ADC, both at the federal level and in Lagos State. He restated this commitment during a gathering in Lagos where the leader of the Labour Party’s Conscience Forum, Moshood Salvador, formally led his members into the ADC.
The event was attended by the Lagos State leadership of the ADC, as well as zonal and ward leaders of the Conscience Forum from the 20 local government areas and 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in the state. Aregbesola commended the defecting members and charged them to align fully with the ADC’s mission of capturing power at both federal and state levels in 2027.
He pledged that the ADC would not only produce Nigeria’s next president but also take control of Alausa, the seat of the Lagos State Government. He stressed that the party’s success would be driven by a cascading mobilisation formula under which each dedicated member is required to recruit ten new members, and each of those ten, in turn, must also bring in ten more.
Aregbesola emphasized that once the model is replicated nationwide, it would guarantee overwhelming dominance for the ADC in the 2027 elections, positioning the party as a serious contender for power and a platform, he insists, capable of ending banditry and restoring security across Nigeria
