ADC Fixes April 14 for National Convention as Party Begins Nationwide Congresses

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has announced April 14 as the date for its national convention as part of a broader nationwide exercise aimed at renewing the party’s leadership structures. The announcement forms part of a scheduled series of congresses that will take place across different levels of the party’s organization.

According to a statement issued on Saturday by the ADC spokesperson, Bolaji Abdullahi, the process follows the party’s constitutional provisions designed to ensure periodic leadership renewal and strengthen democratic participation within the organization. The congresses will begin at the grassroots level and progress through several administrative tiers before culminating in the national convention where key national officers are expected to emerge.

ADC Nationwide Congresses to Begin at Grassroots Level

The ADC outlined a structured timetable that begins with polling unit and ward congresses scheduled for April 7. These grassroots-level meetings are expected to involve party members across the country and will serve as the foundation of the leadership selection process.

Following the initial stage, local government area congresses will take place on April 9. These meetings will bring together representatives from various wards to deliberate and elect officials responsible for coordinating party activities at the local government level.

The ADC emphasized that beginning the process at the grassroots level allows members to participate directly in leadership decisions. Party officials say this approach aligns with the ADC’s internal democratic framework and ensures that leadership emerges through transparent and participatory procedures.

ADC State Congresses to Precede National Convention

After the local government congresses, the process will move to the state level, with state congresses scheduled to hold on April 11. During these meetings, party leaders and delegates will elect state executives who will oversee party affairs within their respective states.

The state congresses will also prepare the ground for the national convention by producing delegates who will participate in the final stage of the leadership process. These delegates will represent various party structures and contribute to decisions that shape the party’s national direction.

Party officials say the sequential structure—from polling units to states—is designed to build consensus and ensure representation across all levels of the party. This structure is intended to strengthen internal cohesion and prepare the African Democratic Congress for upcoming political activities.

ADC Membership Registration Drive Ahead of 2027 Elections

In addition to announcing the congress timetable, the ADC revealed that it recently launched a free online membership registration platform across the country. The initiative is part of the party’s broader membership registration and revalidation exercise.

The digital registration system was introduced earlier in March in Abuja and is intended to simplify the process of joining the party while expanding its membership base nationwide. Party leaders believe the platform will make it easier for new supporters to register and for existing members to update their details.

The ADC noted that the membership drive is part of preparations for the 2027 general election cycle. By expanding its membership and renewing leadership structures through the congresses, the party hopes to strengthen its organizational capacity and position itself more effectively in Nigeria’s political landscape.
