ADC Appoints Aisha Yesufu, Others to Membership Registration Committee Ahead of 2027 Polls

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has inaugurated a 20-member Membership, Revalidation, Mobilisation and Registration Committee as part of its preparations for the 2027 general elections. The committee, which includes activist Aisha Yesufu as Deputy Chairman, is expected to oversee a nationwide membership exercise aimed at strengthening the ADC structures and establishing a credible membership database.

The committee was inaugurated on Tuesday in Abuja by the ADC National Chairman, Senator David Mark. He said the initiative was central to building a verifiable and inclusive membership base that would enhance the party’s legitimacy, reach, and electoral prospects as it positions itself for future political contests.

Committee Composition and Mandate

At the inauguration, Kashim Imam was named Chairman of the committee, with Aisha Yesufu serving as Deputy Chairman and Sekonte Davies as Secretary. Other members include Senator Nurudeen Abatemi, Hon. Yomi Arokodare, Remi Fanibe, Adijat Ojelade, Hon. (Mrs.) Abeje Egwa, Hon. Abas Anas Adamu, Dr. Tanko Yunusa, Paul Lawrence Okorie, Dr. Mrs. Esther Irebo, Hon. Abdullahi Maibasira, Sir Stanley Ekezie, Prof. Festus Arunaye, Jibrin Sabo Keana, Hon. Mina Horsfall, Hon. Shehu Mohammed Koko, Chief Gbazuagu Nneke Gbazuagu, and Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour.

According to Senator Mark, the committee has been tasked with harmonising existing membership records, eliminating inconsistencies, and submitting a 30-day interim report to the party’s National Working Committee. He noted that a strong and well-documented membership base is the lifeblood of any political party and a prerequisite for internal democracy and electoral success.

Focus on Inclusion and Grassroots Mobilisation For ADC

Senator Mark emphasised that the exercise is designed to revalidate existing members, register new ones, and strengthen the party’s grassroots presence across polling units, wards, local governments, states, and the Federal Capital Territory. He explained that the committee would develop both electronic and manual registration systems to ensure transparency and accessibility.

Outlining the terms of reference, the ADC chairman said the committee would recommend standardised procedures for continuous registration and data management, integrate new members into party structures, and work closely with state and local party leadership to promote unity, discipline, and internal democracy. He stressed that the process must be carried out without bias, favouritism, or exclusion.

“This exercise is not about exclusion, but about inclusion, strengthening, organising, and repositioning our ADC to meet the expectations of Nigerians who yearn for credible leadership and democratic governance,” Mark said.

Committee’s Assurance and Party Outlook

Speaking on behalf of the committee, Chairman Kashim Imam pledged that members would discharge their duties diligently and with a strong sense of responsibility. He described the ADC as a grassroots movement and said the party aims to reconnect with ordinary Nigerians who have felt marginalised by governance failures.

Imam stated that the committee would prioritise mass mobilisation across all regions of the country, including hard-to-reach areas, to ensure that the party truly reflects the aspirations of the people. He added that the ADC seeks to build a platform where every Nigerian can claim ownership of the party and participate actively in its affairs.

The inauguration comes against the backdrop of the ADC’s adoption in July 2025 as a coalition platform by opposition leaders seeking to challenge President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 elections. Since then, under the leadership of Senator David Mark as National Chairman and former Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola as National Secretary, the party has intensified efforts to build nationwide structures and broaden its appeal
