ROAD CRASHES: TWO CRASHES, THREE DEATHS: WETIN REALLY HAPPEN?

ROAD CRASHES: WHEN VEHICLE MAINTENANCE BECOMES A MATTER OF LIFE AND DEATH

Road crashes for Ogun State no be issue wey government and motorists fit treat with ordinary announcement. Earlier figures released by the FRSC show say 415 road crashes happen across Ogun State between January and May 2026, claiming 161 lives and injuring another 1,007 people. Although the number of crashes reduced from 494 during the corresponding period in 2025, the human cost still remain serious. The FRSC also identify dangerous driving behaviours such as overspeeding, drunk driving, dangerous overtaking, phone usage while driving, overloading and tyre bursts as major contributors to road accidents.

The latest incidents bring another important issue to public attention: mechanical fitness of vehicles, especially commercial vehicles and heavy-duty trucks. A vehicle wey get brake problem no suppose dey carry passengers or share busy highway with other road users. Equally, drivers wey dey enter major roads from access routes must exercise proper caution, check oncoming traffic and avoid dangerous movements. Na here road safety enforcement and regular vehicle inspections become important. Government agencies also need to sustain public education, investigate reported causes of crashes and ensure say safety regulations no remain only for public announcements. As dem dey talk, prevention better pass emergency rescue, because ambulance fit carry injured person go hospital, but e no fit reverse death.

The latest road crashes should therefore serve as another serious warning to motorists, transport operators and relevant authorities. Three lives don disappear, seven people dey deal with injuries, and several families don face unexpected pain. Make drivers stop treating vehicle maintenance like optional monthly subscription, and make every road user understand say expressway no be racing competition. OGM News Pidgin go continue to monitor developments and efforts by relevant agencies to improve road safety across Ogun State. Because the real achievement no be how quickly emergency officials arrive after accident, but how many accidents responsible driving and effective enforcement prevent before dem happen.
