Atiku Promises to End Insecurity and Make Nigeria Affordable If Elected in 2027

Former Vice-President and African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has pledged to tackle insecurity, restore hope among young Nigerians and make the country more affordable if elected president in the 2027 general elections.

Atiku made the declaration on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, during his arrival in Sokoto State for the formal launch of his presidential campaign. His remarks came amid growing political discussions over the country’s security challenges, rising cost of living and the economic difficulties confronting households and businesses.

The former Vice-President said Nigerians had endured significant hardship and deserved leadership that would prioritise their safety, economic opportunities and general welfare.

“I will end the insecurity that haunts our communities, restore hope to our young people, and make Nigeria affordable again,” Atiku declared.

His campaign message places security, affordability and youth development at the centre of his political agenda ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

Atiku Places Security and Economic Relief at the Centre of His Campaign

Atiku identified insecurity and the rising cost of living as major challenges requiring urgent attention. He argued that Nigerians should be able to pursue legitimate businesses, engage in farming and carry out their daily activities without constant fear.

During his remarks in Sokoto, he also promised to encourage legitimate cross-border trade and support economic activities, particularly in communities where residents depend on agriculture and regional commerce.

The ADC candidate further indicated that his proposed approach would focus on reviving economic activities, creating opportunities for young people and addressing the financial pressures affecting ordinary Nigerians.

He maintained that improving security would also help farmers return to their farmlands, strengthen food production and contribute to reducing the cost of food across the country.

ADC Candidate Criticises Government Borrowing and Economic Policies

Beyond his campaign promises, Atiku has continued to question the economic direction of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.

The former Vice-President recently criticised the Federal Government’s fresh external borrowing request of approximately N10.79 trillion, calling on the National Assembly to demand detailed information about the proposed loans, their intended projects and repayment arrangements before granting approval.

He argued that Nigerians deserved greater transparency regarding public borrowing, particularly amid the pressure of rising living costs.

Atiku also advocated an economic approach that would encourage domestic production, support businesses and improve citizens’ purchasing power. His position forms part of the ADC’s attempt to present an alternative economic direction ahead of the 2027 elections.

2027 Presidential Contest Begins to Gather Momentum

Atiku’s campaign activities in Sokoto represent part of the growing political mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general elections. The ADC leadership has described the campaign as an opportunity to present its proposals for addressing Nigeria’s economic and security challenges.

The campaign also comes amid broader political competition, with President Tinubu and other opposition figures expected to present their respective records, policy proposals and plans to Nigerians.

For Atiku, the central challenge will be convincing voters that his proposed policies can translate into measurable improvements in security, employment opportunities, food affordability and household welfare.

His promises are likely to attract public scrutiny as Nigerians assess the feasibility of the plans and compare the proposals of different presidential contenders. Atiku’s pledge to end insecurity, restore hope among young Nigerians and make Nigeria more affordable has added another dimension to the emerging debate ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

While the promises outline the priorities of his campaign, voters will be looking for clear policy details, practical implementation strategies and measurable commitments.
