HUMAN TRAFFICKING: Police Rescue Nigerian Woman Sold for ₦770,000 in Mali as 42 Others Face Possible Captivity

Human trafficking don turn another disturbing international wahala as Nigeria Police reportedly rescue one 21-year-old Nigerian woman wey suspected traffickers allegedly sell for CFA 420,000, equivalent to approximately ₦770,000, after deceiving am with promise of better employment abroad. But as police arrest three suspected members of the criminal network, one frightening revelation don make the matter bigger: about 42 other Nigerian women reportedly dey trapped inside one remote gold-mining settlement for Mali. The question wey everybody suppose ask now be: if one woman don escape, who go help the remaining women come back home?

FALSE JOB PROMISES AND HUMAN AUCTION

According to the police account, the rescued woman, identified with the protected name Godiya Amos, na 21-year-old woman from Akwanga, Nasarawa State. Her journey reportedly begin on September 26, 2026, when one suspected trafficker, Orgba Solomon, allegedly convince am say better employment opportunity dey wait for am abroad. But instead of the promised work, she allegedly enter the hands of an international human trafficking network.

Police investigation reportedly show say the suspect first take her through Lagos before moving her through illegal border routes into the Republic of Benin and subsequently Mali. Her phone and travel documents were allegedly confiscated, thereby cutting off communication with her family. Upon arrival, she was reportedly handed over to other members of the network and sold for CFA 420,000, approximately ₦770,000. When she reportedly refused to engage in prostitution, her captors allegedly beat am and force am to take blood oath inside one shrine before subjecting am to sexual exploitation. Na so employment opportunity allegedly turn to human merchandise, while the people wey promise better life reportedly become her nightmare.

THREE ARRESTS AND 42 WOMEN UNDER THREAT

The breakthrough reportedly come after the victim’s sister alert authorities about her disappearance. Operatives of the Force Intelligence Department Special Tactical Squad (FID-STS) subsequently begin intelligence-led investigation to track the suspected criminal network. Police say one major opportunity come on October 18, when Solomon allegedly return to Nigeria to recruit more young women for trafficking to Mali and Senegal. Three suspects don reportedly enter police custody: Daniel Aondofa, 26; Orgba Solomon, 28, also known as Terry, described as the alleged leader of the network; and Thankgod Ocho, 25. The police say three additional female victims, identified as Martha Godiya, Amina Usman and Hadisa Yahaya, were also rescued and reunited with their families.

However, the most disturbing aspect of the investigation na the allegation say approximately 42 other Nigerian women still dey inside one makeshift camp located within a remote gold-mining settlement in Mali. According to the rescued woman’s account, the women allegedly dey face forced prostitution, restricted movement and slave-like conditions, making escape extremely difficult. This revelation deserves urgent attention because rescuing one victim and arresting three suspects no automatically mean say the entire criminal network don collapse. Additional context also show say this no be isolated warning.

For February 2026, police for Enugu State announced the rescue of another Nigerian woman allegedly trafficked to Mali with a false promise of employment. More recently, on November 3, reports emerged that four girls from Kogi State, including a 14-year-old minor, were rescued from an alleged prostitution network in Morila, Mali, through an intervention involving the Global Anti-Human Trafficking Organisation and NAPTIP. These separate cases highlight the continuing danger of cross-border trafficking and the need for stronger cooperation between Nigerian authorities, foreign security agencies and anti-trafficking organisations.

The lesson from this disturbing development na say anybody wey promise suspiciously attractive overseas employment without proper documentation, verifiable company details and legitimate recruitment procedures deserves serious questioning. Young Nigerians and their families must verify international job offers before travelling, while authorities must intensify investigations into recruitment agents and illegal migration routes. Human trafficking no be employment opportunity, and human beings no be goods wey anybody suppose price, package and deliver across international borders.

The police now need to move beyond arresting three suspects and urgently establish the whereabouts of the remaining 42 women, if the allegation is confirmed. OGM News Pidgin go continue to monitor the investigation and bring una further updates as efforts to rescue other possible victims continue.
