Rotimi Amaechi Dares Critics: “I’ve Been in Politics For 39years — Who Will Prove I’m Corrupt?”

Rotimi Amaechi Dares Critics: “I’ve Been in Politics For 39years — Who Will Prove I’m Corrupt?”

Rotimi Amaechi, ADC vice-presidential candidate has challenged anyone accusing him of corruption to provide evidence, declaring that he has been involved in politics since 1987 and is still waiting for anyone to prove that he is a corrupt politician. Amaechi made the statement while defending his political record and responding to questions about his long career in public service.

Speaking during a Channels Television interview, Rotimi Amaechi said he had repeatedly maintained that he was not corrupt and challenged those making such claims to substantiate their allegations. His comments come as he campaigns alongside ADC presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

Rotimi Amaechi Puts His Political Record on the Line

Rotimi Amaechi said his political career dates back to 1987 and questioned why, after decades in politics, nobody had been able to establish a corruption case against him. He said he was “waiting for the person” who could prove that he was corrupt, presenting the challenge as part of his defence of his record.

Amaechi’s statement is a political claim about his own record and does not, by itself, establish the absence or presence of wrongdoing. The former Rivers State governor and transportation minister has held several major public positions, making his record in government a subject of continuing political scrutiny.

Rotimi Amaechi Recalls His Years in Public Office

Rotimi Amaechi rose through Rivers State politics to become Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly and later governor of the state from 2007 to 2015. He subsequently served as Minister of Transportation under former President Muhammadu Buhari, giving him decades of experience in both state and federal government.

His current role as Atiku Abubakar’s running mate has placed Rotimi Amaechi at the centre of the emerging 2027 opposition campaign. His public record, policy positions and previous political decisions are therefore likely to receive renewed attention as the election approaches.

Rotimi Amaechi Faces Political Questions From Wike

The corruption challenge from Rotimi Amaechi comes against the backdrop of a renewed political confrontation with FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, another former governor of Rivers State. Wike has questioned Amaechi’s record after years in public office and challenged him over what he described as his achievements in Rivers politics.

The disagreement between the two men reflects their longstanding political rivalry, but Wike’s criticisms should be distinguished from the specific corruption challenge Amaechi issued. While Amaechi is asking critics to produce evidence of corruption, Wike has focused more broadly on Amaechi’s political record, achievements and legacy in public office. Rotimi Amaechi has put his political record at the centre of the debate by challenging anyone who believes he is corrupt to prove the allegation. His declaration comes as he prepares to contest the 2027 presidential election as Atiku Abubakar’s running mate, ensuring that his decades in Nigerian politics will remain under public scrutiny.

For OGM News NG, the central question surrounding Amaechi’s declaration is straightforward: after nearly four decades in politics, what evidence will his critics present to answer the challenge he has now publicly issued?
