The business, located around Odi-Olowo area of Osogbo, reportedly attracted plenty residents because of the unusually cheap prices attached to rice, cooking oil, spaghetti and other food items.

According to reports, customers were expected to pay ahead and return after some days to collect their goods. But when some buyers reportedly returned, dem allegedly meet locked shop and no sign of the operators.

The food business reportedly advertised a 50kg bag of rice for about ₦27,000, while 25 litres of cooking oil was reportedly offered for ₦30,000 and a pack of spaghetti for ₦10,000.

The prices reportedly sweet customers belle, as some residents and traders allegedly paid hundreds of thousands of naira in advance to secure the food items.

One customer reportedly said she paid ₦300,000 for 11 bags of rice, while another was quoted as saying she paid ₦810,000 for rice, cooking oil and other food items.

Osogbo Resident Meet Locked Shop After Waiting for Food

When some customers reportedly returned to collect their orders, the excitement allegedly turn to gbege after dem met the business premises locked.

The operators were reportedly unreachable, while some customers allegedly gathered around the premises demanding explanation and looking for a way to recover their money.

Some affected customers were reportedly considering protest over the matter, while others were still waiting for the vendor to appear and explain what happened.

But there is another side to the story. The Osun State Police Command spokesperson, Abiodun Ojelabi, reportedly said the command had not received a formal complaint about the matter at the time he was contacted.

So, for now, claims that the vendor deliberately collected customers’ money and disappeared remain allegations and have not been established as a confirmed fraud case.
