A woman, identified as Shobowale Balikis, was reportedly arrested after correctional officers allegedly discovered ethanol hidden inside bottled-water packs during screening at Ibara Custodial Centre, Abeokuta.

According to the Nigerian Correctional Service, the incident happened around 3:50 p.m. on Saturday, September 26, 2026, when officers were carrying out routine checks. The substance was reportedly concealed as ordinary bottled water and allegedly meant for an inmate.

Ethanol Disguise Scatter as Officers Check ‘Bottled Water’

The alleged plan reportedly hit serious wahala when correctional officers examined the items during their routine screening and discovered that the supposed bottled water was allegedly carrying something else.

Instead of the normal “water, water,” the officers reportedly found a substance identified as ethanol. Na so the alleged supply mission reportedly scatter before the items could get to their intended destination.

The suspect was subsequently handed over to the Nigeria Police Force for further investigation and possible prosecution, according to the correctional authorities.

Ethanol Raises Another Contraband Wahala Inside Ogun Prison

The Controller of Corrections in Ogun State, Abioye Kamoru Adesina, reportedly commended the officers for their vigilance and reiterated the command’s position against smuggling prohibited items into custodial centres.
