Three people have died and about 20 others sustained injuries following a head-on collision along the Ife–Ilesa Expressway in Osun State, with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) blaming speeding and dangerous driving for the crash. The incident occurred around the Tonkere area on Saturday, with a Toyota Hiace and a car involved in the collision.

According to Osun FRSC Sector Commander Sunday Adebayo, the rescue team reached the scene roughly five minutes after the crash. The three people who died comprised two females and one male, while about 20 others sustained varying degrees of injuries and were taken to hospitals in Ile-Ife for treatment.
In the satirical department of road reality, however, speeding appears to have once again behaved like a passenger nobody invited but everybody allowed into the vehicle. The FRSC’s warning was blunt: excessive speed can turn an otherwise survivable road incident into a much more serious tragedy.
Speeding Reportedly Applied for the Job of Osun Road’s Driver
Adebayo said there was no apparent reason for such a high level of fatality given the road conditions at the time, urging motorists to change their attitudes and respect other road users. He stressed that travelling at a lower speed can reduce the severity of injuries when crashes occur.
The warning comes against the backdrop of other recent Nigerian crashes in which FRSC officials have also identified speed violations or excessive speed among the contributing factors. For road users, the message is painfully simple: arriving a few minutes earlier is hardly a victory if the journey leaves lives behind.
For now, investigations and the recovery process continue, while the latest Osun crash serves as another grim reminder that roads are not racetracks and vehicles are not auditioning for action movies.
