ADC Secures New Venue for National Convention in Abuja After Initial Uncertainty

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has confirmed a new venue for its much-anticipated national convention scheduled for Tuesday, April 14, in Abuja. After earlier uncertainty surrounding the availability of a suitable location, the party announced that the event will now take place at the Rainbow Event Center.

The development comes amid prior concerns raised by ADC officials about difficulties in securing a venue, sparking public debate over access to government-managed facilities in the capital. With the confirmation of the new location, the ADC has expressed readiness to proceed with what it describes as a crucial national gathering.

ADC :Venue Challenges and Initial Concerns

In the days leading up to the convention, the ADC faced logistical hurdles that cast doubt on the event’s planning. Kola Ologbondiyan, media aide to David Mark, the party’s embattled National Chairman, had earlier disclosed that the ADC had not secured a venue less than 24 hours before the scheduled convention.

According to him, the ADC submitted a formal request to the office of Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, seeking approval to use the Eagle Square. While the request was reportedly acknowledged, no official response was received, raising concerns within the ADC about potential disruptions.

Further attempts to secure alternative venues, including facilities at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, particularly the Velodrome, were also unsuccessful. These developments fueled speculation about possible administrative or political obstacles affecting the party’s preparations.

Government Response and Clarifications

Reacting to the allegations, the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, dismissed claims of politically motivated denial of access to public venues. He described such assertions as unfounded and suggested they were attempts to attract public sympathy.

Wike maintained that the management of public facilities in Abuja operates on clear guidelines, emphasizing that access is granted to all organizations that follow due process and meet stipulated requirements. He stated that no formal application from the complaining parties had come to his attention.

The minister also highlighted that venues like Eagle Square are available for use by any group willing to comply with administrative procedures and payment obligations, noting that such events contribute to government revenue.

ADC New Venue and Convention Outlook

With the announcement of the Rainbow Event Center as the official venue, the ADC has moved to reassure delegates and stakeholders of a smooth and well-organized convention. The party noted that the location offers a central and accessible setting for participants arriving from across the country.

In a statement shared via its official communication channels, the party emphasized that choosing Abuja reflects the national importance of the convention and ensures ease of access for attendees. The venue is expected to accommodate a broad spectrum of party members, observers, and invited guests.

As preparations conclude, attention now shifts to the outcomes of the convention, which is expected to shape the party’s internal structure and political direction in the months ahead.
