PDP Rallies in Ilorin, Declares Readiness to Reclaim Kwara in 2027

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State has declared its readiness to reclaim power in the 2027 general elections, signaling renewed confidence following its recent national convention. The announcement was made during a post-convention rally held in Ilorin, where party leaders and supporters gathered to reaffirm their political ambitions.

Speaking at the rally, the state chairman of the PDP, Isa Adamu, described the event as a defining moment for both the party and the state. He emphasized that the PDP had emerged from its national convention more united and better positioned to present a credible alternative to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Post-Convention Unity and Renewed Political Strategy

Adamu told party supporters that the PDP’s recent national convention in Abuja had strengthened its internal structures, fostering cohesion and strategic alignment ahead of the 2027 elections. According to him, the party is now more organised and prepared to challenge the ruling party at both the state and national levels.

He described the Ilorin rally as more than a routine political gathering, calling it a declaration of renewed hope and a signal that the PDP is ready to offer leadership that prioritises the welfare of citizens. The chairman stressed that the party would present candidates capable of delivering effective governance and restoring public trust.

Party leaders at the rally also highlighted the importance of unity among members, noting that internal divisions had previously weakened the PDP’s electoral chances. They expressed confidence that lessons from past setbacks have been addressed, positioning the party for a stronger showing in future elections.

Criticism of Governance and Security Concerns

In his address, Adamu criticised the current administration under the APC, linking the state’s challenges to what he described as governance failures since the 2019 elections, which were influenced by the “Otoge” political movement. He argued that the change in leadership had not translated into the expected improvements in the lives of residents.

The PDP chairman raised concerns about insecurity in parts of the state, alleging that incidents of violence and fear have become more frequent in recent times. He also questioned the pace and distribution of development projects, suggesting that rural communities, farmers, and traders have not received adequate attention.

Furthermore, Adamu expressed concern over what he described as restrictions on freedom of expression, alleging that some youths had faced consequences for criticising the government. He stressed that democratic governance should protect citizens’ rights to speak freely and demand accountability from their leaders.

PDP Call for Broad Political Alliance and Inclusive Governance

As part of its strategy, the PDP extended an invitation to members of other political parties, including the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and the Accord Party, to join what it described as a collective effort to rebuild Kwara State.

Adamu framed the call as a unifying appeal, urging politicians across party lines to prioritise the state’s development over partisan interests. He maintained that inclusive governance would be central to the PDP’s agenda if it returns to power.

The PDP governed Kwara State for several years before losing control in 2019 to the APC. With the 2027 elections approaching, the party appears determined to capitalise on its renewed internal strength and public messaging to regain political relevance in the state.
