Governor Zulum Sends Strong Message—“No Hiding Place” for Boko Haram Helpers

Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, has issued a stern and uncompromising warning to residents allegedly aiding insurgents, declaring that anyone found collaborating with Boko Haram will be treated as traitors and dealt with accordingly. The warning comes amid a worrying resurgence of attacks in parts of the state, raising fresh concerns over security and civilian safety.

Governor Zulum’s statement underscores the increasing frustration of authorities over the persistent support networks that enable insurgent activities. Despite years of military operations, intelligence reports suggest that local collaboration continues to play a role in sustaining the insurgency.

The governor emphasized that the fight against terrorism cannot be won without the active cooperation of local communities. He urged residents to distance themselves from insurgents and support security agencies with credible information to restore peace across Borno State.

Rising Insecurity Prompts Tougher Government Response

The renewed wave of attacks in Borno has forced the state government to adopt stricter measures aimed at curbing insurgency. Governor Zulum noted that recent incidents indicate that insurgents are still receiving assistance from individuals within affected communities, making it harder for security forces to achieve lasting success.

According to him, this internal support system has become one of the biggest obstacles in the fight against Boko Haram. He stressed that without addressing this issue, military victories may remain temporary, as insurgents continue to regroup and launch fresh attacks.

As part of the response, the government is strengthening surveillance, intelligence gathering, and collaboration with security agencies. These efforts are designed to identify and dismantle networks that provide logistical or informational support to insurgents.

Community Responsibility Highlighted in Anti-Insurgency Efforts

Governor Zulum placed strong emphasis on the role of community members in achieving sustainable peace. He called on residents to act responsibly and avoid any form of association with insurgent groups, warning that even indirect support could have serious consequences.

He further explained that communities must take ownership of their security by reporting suspicious activities promptly. According to the governor, timely information from locals can significantly enhance the effectiveness of military operations and prevent attacks before they occur.

At the same time, Zulum assured law-abiding citizens that the government remains committed to protecting innocent lives. He noted that security measures would be carried out with caution to avoid targeting individuals unjustly, while still maintaining a firm stance against collaborators.

Mixed Reactions Trail Zulum’s Hardline Warning

The governor’s strong warning has sparked mixed reactions among residents and observers. While many support the tough stance as necessary to combat insurgency, others have expressed concerns about the potential for misuse or wrongful accusations.
Security analysts argue that targeting collaboration is a critical step in weakening insurgent operations. However, they also stress the importance of transparency and accountability in enforcement to maintain public trust and avoid alienating communities.

As Borno continues to battle insecurity, the success of these measures will largely depend on effective implementation and cooperation between the government, security agencies, and the public.

Governor Zulum’s message is clear: ending insurgency requires collective responsibility, and there will be consequences for those who choose to undermine peace efforts.
