Gowon Says Tinubu Is Trying Hard, Nigerians Check If “Best” Includes Fuel Prices

Former Nigerian Head of State, Yakubu Gowon, has expressed strong support for the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, stating that the president is “doing his best all round” in addressing the nation’s numerous challenges. Gowon made the remarks during a visit to the Aso Rock Presidential Villa on Saturday, where he met with Tinubu and acknowledged the government’s efforts across multiple sectors.

Speaking to journalists shortly after the meeting, Gowon explained that his visit was primarily to commend the president for his dedication to national development and governance. The elder statesman emphasized that despite the complex issues facing the country, Tinubu has demonstrated determination in managing political, economic, and social matters affecting Nigerians.

According to Gowon, the leadership of the current administration reflects a commitment to national stability and progress. He noted that governing a nation as diverse and complex as Nigeria requires balancing several competing interests, adding that Tinubu appears to be making deliberate efforts to address these challenges in ways that benefit the country as a whole.

Former Head of State Highlights Tinubu’s Approach to Economy and Governance

While discussing the state of the nation, Gowon highlighted the president’s attention to economic management and political leadership. He acknowledged that Nigeria’s economy has been under pressure in recent years but insisted that the administration has been working to implement policies aimed at stabilizing the system and improving the country’s overall economic outlook.

The former head of state noted that Tinubu’s government has attempted to address structural issues affecting the economy while also navigating political realities. He stated that the president’s policies appear to be directed at ensuring long-term stability and development, even though such reforms sometimes involve difficult decisions.

Gowon further stressed that governance involves addressing not only economic concerns but also broader social and political responsibilities. According to him, Tinubu’s leadership approach indicates a recognition of these interconnected challenges, particularly in ensuring that the interests of Nigerians remain a priority in national decision-making.

Security Challenges Remain a Key Focus for the Tinubu Administration

One of the most pressing concerns facing Nigeria, according to Gowon, is security. He acknowledged that insecurity remains a major challenge for the country but stated that the president is actively workinga to address the situation through various strategies and initiatives.

Gowon explained that Tinubu’s government appears committed to tackling security threats affecting different regions of the country. He remarked that the administration’s efforts demonstrate an understanding that national security is essential for economic growth, political stability, and social development.

When asked whether there were specific areas where the administration should improve, Gowon said he did not see any particular sector being neglected. Instead, he emphasized that the president must continue focusing on protecting Nigeria’s interests across all sectors. He added that his visit to the Presidential Villa was simply to express appreciation and encouragement for what he described as the government’s ongoing efforts to move the country forward.
