Actor Abiodun Ayoyinka Laments Lack of Rights to Use His Famous Character

Veteran Nigerian actor Abiodun Ayoyinka has opened up about the challenges he faces despite becoming widely recognized for portraying the beloved character in the classic comedy series Papa Ajasco & Company. In a candid interview with media personality Lucky Udu, the actor explained that he does not legally own the character that made him famous.

According to Ayoyinka, the character and brand rights belong to the show’s creator, Wale Adenuga, which means he cannot freely appear as Papa Ajasco at events or in other productions without formal permission. He revealed that this restriction has created difficulties for him professionally, especially when people expect him to perform using the famous character.

The actor added that the limitation has significantly affected his career growth. Many producers and event organizers approach him specifically to appear as Papa Ajasco, but the legal restrictions surrounding the character often make such opportunities difficult to pursue, leaving him struggling to fully benefit from the fame the role brought him.

“I Can’t Even Wear the Costume” — Abiodun Ayoyinka Speaks on Career Limitations

Nollywood actor Abiodun Ayoyinka has expressed frustration over the limitations placed on him regarding the popular Papa Ajasco character. Speaking during an interview with Lucky Udu, the actor revealed that he cannot even wear the iconic costume associated with the role without permission.

Ayoyinka explained that the character was officially registered by veteran filmmaker Wale Adenuga, meaning all rights remain under the producer’s control. Because of this, he must seek approval anytime someone wants him to portray Papa Ajasco outside the original production.

The actor said this has limited his opportunities because fans and organizers usually recognize him only as the comic character. While the role brought him nationwide fame through the series Papa Ajasco & Company, he noted that it has also made it difficult for him to build a separate identity as an actor beyond the famous bald-headed character.

Fame Without Fortune: Abiodun Ayoyinka Reveals Financial Struggles

Despite decades of recognition as the face behind the popular Papa Ajasco character in Papa Ajasco & Company, actor Abiodun Ayoyinka says life has not been financially easy. In a revealing interview with Lucky Udu, he shared that he has struggled for years despite his widespread fame.

The actor admitted that he currently does not own a car or a house, a situation that surprised many fans who grew up watching him on television. He explained that the inability to freely use the Papa Ajasco brand has played a major role in limiting his income and career opportunities.

Ayoyinka said his biggest challenge has been establishing his personal identity separate from the character. While audiences love Papa Ajasco, he hopes to be recognized as an independent actor and creative talent, even as the ownership of the character remains with its creator, Wale Adenuga.
