INEC Promises ‘No Glitches’ as Anambra Decides Tomorrow

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has expressed full confidence in its preparedness to conduct a credible, transparent, and peaceful governorship election in Anambra State on Saturday.
INEC’s Supervising National Commissioner, Ken Ukeagu, made this assurance on Friday during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today, where he emphasized that all logistical and technical arrangements had been completed ahead of the polls.

“The mandate is to give Nigerians, and Anambra people in particular, fair, credible, and inclusive elections, and that is what we are going to do tomorrow,” Ukeagu said, affirming that the INEC had learned from previous challenges and was committed to a smooth exercise.

INEC’s assurance comes amid heightened expectations and scrutiny following technical and logistical setbacks recorded in past elections, particularly with the deployment of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) and late arrival of polling materials.

No Glitches, No Delays’: INEC Addresses Concerns

Addressing concerns raised by stakeholders and voters, Ukeagu dismissed fears of potential malfunctions or delays in the voting process. He stressed that both sensitive and non-sensitive materials had already been moved to their designated Registration Area Centres (RACs), and personnel were ready for early deployment.

“There will be no glitches, no technical problems. Materials will arrive early, men will arrive early at the polling units, and we are going to give Anambra people credible elections tomorrow,” he stated confidently.

According to him, all vehicles and logistics required for the movement of election materials were on standby to ensure seamless distribution across the state. “The materials are already at the RACs. We moved them to the local government areas yesterday. Most of the RACs have been activated. Vehicles have been delivered, and we are set. Tomorrow morning, we will just move them to the polling units and wait for the Anambra people to come and vote,” he added.

Prepared for Every Scenario, Including a Runoff

In line with electoral laws, INEC has also prepared for a possible runoff election should no candidate meet the constitutional requirements for victory. Ukeagu explained that such a measure reflects the INEC commitment to upholding due process and ensuring electoral integrity.

“We are preparing for a runoff. You know, as a Commission, it’s part of the law — where no candidate meets the requirement of the law, we will certainly go for a runoff,” he said.

Anambra, one of Nigeria’s politically vibrant southeastern states, has witnessed intense campaign activities in the lead-up to the polls. Security agencies, election observers, and party agents have also been finalizing arrangements to ensure a peaceful voting environment. With INEC’s assurances, voters in Anambra are now looking forward to an election that will test the Commission’s efficiency and technological reliability.
