Nenadi Usman says Labour Party will dismantle APC–PDP dominance with polling unit structures in 2027

Nenadi Usman has declared that the Labour Party (LP) is no longer the fragmented opposition it once was in the run-up to the 2023 general elections. According to her, the party has successfully built grassroots structures across Nigeria, placing polling units at the heart of its electoral strategy. She argued that this evolution gives the LP a more formidable presence compared to its last attempt at national leadership.

She maintained that the absence of deep polling unit penetration was a major setback in 2023. With that deficiency corrected, Nenadi Usman affirmed that the Labour Party is now poised to compete effectively against the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), stressing that the party’s strength lies in its newfound organizational depth.

Grassroots Mobilization as a Game Changer

Nenadi Usman emphasized that for the first time in its history, the Labour Party has developed mechanisms that directly connect its candidates with voters in their communities. She said polling unit structures ensure that the party can monitor, defend, and mobilize votes without relying heavily on external alliances.

She added that this innovation would make rigging and voter intimidation more difficult to execute. In her words, the LP’s strength now lies in its ability to replicate local presence in all 176,846 polling units across Nigeria, ensuring that no community feels abandoned in the electoral process.

LP’s Response to Critics of its Electoral Chances

Nenadi Usman dismissed critics who argue that the Labour Party’s performance in 2023 was merely a protest vote driven by youth anger. She contended that what happened in 2023 was the foundation for a larger political revolution, noting that dismissing LP’s growing influence is a mistake that will benefit only its competitors.

She stressed that young Nigerians remain disillusioned with the ruling class, and their alignment with the Labour Party is not a fleeting moment but a sustained political awakening. According to her, the polling unit structures give the youth the confidence that their voices will count in 2027.

The Battle for Voter Confidence

Nenadi Usman revealed that the Labour Party is focused on rebuilding public trust by maintaining transparency, accountability, and inclusiveness. She argued that Nigerians are weary of repeated promises from the APC and PDP, and this dissatisfaction creates fertile ground for LP to position itself as the true alternative.

She noted that voter confidence will not be won by rhetoric alone, but through consistent demonstration of good governance in states and constituencies where the party already holds political offices. She explained that the LP intends to showcase local successes as a model of what it could achieve nationally.

Electoral Reforms and LP’s Position

Nenadi Usman called for electoral reforms that will make Nigeria’s elections less prone to manipulation. She asserted that without a reliable electoral process, even strong party structures may not translate into fair outcomes. For her, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) must prove that it can safeguard the integrity of future elections.

She further highlighted that LP would continue to pressure lawmakers and civil society groups to insist on credible elections. She argued that the fate of Nigeria’s democracy rests not only on voters but also on institutions that must guarantee fairness.

What 2027 Holds for Nigerian Politics

Nenadi Usman predicted that the 2027 general election will be a political turning point, with the Labour Party ready to break the duopoly of APC and PDP. She declared that Nigerians should expect a tougher, smarter, and more strategic LP, fully equipped to challenge entrenched political forces.

She concluded that the 2027 elections will no longer be business as usual, as LP intends to do things differently from its rivals. For her, the combination of polling unit structures, grassroots mobilization, and sustained youth participation makes the party a contender capable of rewriting Nigeria’s political narrative.
