Governor Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti State has officially declared his intention to seek a second term in office. The declaration was made on Monday during a strategic meeting with members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Central Working Committee at the party’s state secretariat in Ado-Ekiti.
The governor attributed his decision to the overwhelming show of support from key stakeholders across the state. According to Oyebanji, traditional rulers, civil servants, professional bodies, market women, youth groups, and transport unions had persistently urged him to continue his leadership beyond 2026. “I have listened to the voice of the people,” he said. “Their endorsement gives me the courage to continue this journey of service.”
He also praised the unwavering backing of political leaders across party lines, suggesting that his administration’s inclusive style and developmental strides had gained bipartisan recognition.
Oyebanji Appreciation to Party Leadership and Stakeholders
Governor Oyebanji expressed deep gratitude to APC leaders and supporters for standing firmly by his side throughout his first term. Addressing the party’s executives, Oyebanji said, “Let me start by appreciating you, thank you for your support, endurance and for holding the party together. I also thank you on behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the endorsement.”
He extended his appreciation to his deputy, Chief (Mrs) Monisade Afuye, and other political office holders for their dedication and teamwork. The governor reaffirmed his loyalty to the APC and emphasized that unity remains the party’s greatest strength in Ekiti.
During his address, Oyebanji dismissed speculation about internal division within the APC, maintaining that the party in Ekiti remained a cohesive and united political family. “Our topmost leader remains former Governor Niyi Adebayo, followed by former Governor Kayode Fayemi. There is no crisis in our leadership,” he affirmed.
Commitment to Consolidation and Inclusive Governance
The governor made it clear that his second-term bid is not only about political continuity but about deepening and consolidating the developmental gains of his first term. He pledged to sustain the momentum in infrastructure, healthcare, education, job creation, and social welfare.
“I have a duty to complete what we have started,” Oyebanji said. “There is so much more to be done. With your continued support, we will take Ekiti to greater heights.” He promised that his second term would focus on finishing key projects and implementing strategic reforms that would leave lasting impacts on the state.
He reiterated his administration’s commitment to inclusive governance and transparency. “We will continue to serve with humility, honesty, and the fear of God,” he said.
A Call for Political Participation and Voter Readiness
Governor Oyebanji urged Ekiti residents to prepare for the 2026 governorship election by obtaining and safeguarding their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs). He emphasized that active civic participation is vital to sustaining democratic governance.
He assured the party that internal democracy would remain intact, encouraging anyone interested in the APC governorship ticket to feel free to contest. “This is a democratic party. Anyone with interest can step forward. The party will decide, and we will all support the outcome,” he said.
The governor also commended President Tinubu’s economic policies, saying they had contributed significantly to the state’s progress. He acknowledged the federal government’s intervention in infrastructure, agriculture, and SME development, which he said had made life easier for many Ekiti citizens.
Party Leadership Reacts with Praise and Unity Pledge
The declaration was warmly received by key party stakeholders present at the meeting. APC State Chairman, Hon. Sola Elesin, lauded Oyebanji for his leadership style, which he described as humble, accessible, and effective. “Your performance in office speaks volumes. You have united the party and served the people diligently,” Elesin remarked.
Other prominent figures present included Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adeoye Aribasoye; Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Habibat Adubiaro; Chief of Staff, Mr. Niyi Adebayo; and the Special Adviser on Political Matters, Chief Jide Awe. They all echoed similar sentiments, commending Oyebanji’s performance and endorsing his quest for a second term.
Deputy Governor Monisade Afuye also spoke at the event, pledging her unwavering support for the governor’s re-election bid. “We are united, focused, and ready to support our governor as he continues to serve our people,” she said.
With this formal declaration, the stage appears set for a potentially smooth internal party process for Oyebanji’s second-term pursuit—one already energized by public goodwill and party unity.
