APC National Secretary, Ajibola Basiru Blasts Atiku’s Desperate Coalition: Tinubu Remains the Ultimate Powerbroker for 2027 Victory

Ajibola Basiru, National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), launched a blistering critique against former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and his allies, who are reportedly courting a coalition to unseat President Bola Tinubu in 2027. Basiru, in a pointed media statement, described the move as a desperate, recycled tactic led by politicians who lack direction and genuine concern for Nigeria’s welfare.

He asserted that President Tinubu is not only a veteran of political strategy but the unrivaled “grandmaster of coalitions.” Drawing historical parallels, Basiru reminded Nigerians of Tinubu’s leadership role in the National Democratic Coalition (NADECO), a pro-democracy movement that helped dismantle military dictatorship in the 1990s. According to him, no alliance stitched by Atiku or others can rival that legacy.

Tinubu’s Coalition Credentials vs. Opposition’s “Hollow Alliance”

Ajibola Basiru emphasized that the APC was the first political entity in Nigeria to successfully unify disparate parties under one strong national platform, referencing the 2013 merger of ACN, CPC, ANPP, and factions of APGA and PDP that birthed the APC. He characterized Atiku’s current strategy as unoriginal and lacking ideological substance.

He challenged the opposition to explain why, if they truly won the 2023 election as they claim, they now seek to rally fragmented camps into one bloc. “A coalition should stem from shared values, not shared bitterness,” Basiru quipped. He argued that the coalition is not about nation-building but power-grabbing by political actors with inflated egos and minimal grassroots connection.

“Tinubu Will Win Again in 2027” – APC Declares

Projecting into the 2027 general elections, Ajibola Basiru predicted a second sweeping victory for President Tinubu. He dismissed the coalition as a weak imitation of the APC’s historic 2015 unification that led to the defeat of incumbent President Goodluck Jonathan—marking the first peaceful transfer of power from one Nigerian president to another.

He said the coalition lacks the numerical strength, ideological vision, and nationwide appeal needed to challenge the APC. “By the grace of Almighty God, they will lose in 2027 just as they did in 2023. Nigerians know the truth,” he stated confidently, insisting that the electorate will favor continuity over what he described as the opposition’s recycled propaganda.

Opposition’s Motivation: Ambition, Not National Interest

According to Ajibola Basiru, the push for a new coalition is not born out of patriotism but from personal ambition. “This so-called arrangement is not driven by love for Nigeria but by inordinate ambition and a sense of entitlement,” he declared. He accused the opposition of misinforming Nigerians about the 2023 electoral outcome and weaponizing fake narratives to remain politically relevant.

Basiru said those engineering the coalition are more interested in clout than constructive change, accusing them of lacking a policy blueprint to address issues such as inflation, insecurity, or education. “Nigerians need solutions, not slogans. Leadership is not inherited by entitlement, it is earned through service and sacrifice,” he added.

“Let Them Return to Their Political Corners” – Ajibola Basiru Mocks Atiku’s Camp

Ajibola Basiru challenged opposition leaders to return to their individual political parties and build their platforms rather than hiding under the guise of unity. He questioned the credibility of politicians who switch allegiances and ideologies based on electoral math rather than principle. “They don’t believe in anything but power,” he said.

He likened the coalition talk to a drama series aimed at manipulating public opinion without real solutions. “If they are serious about governance, they should stop behaving like political nomads,” he added. Basiru claimed Nigerians are more politically aware now and will not be swayed by alliances built on “elitist frustration.”

APC’s Message to Nigerians: Beware of Political Opportunists

Ajibola Basiru called on Nigerians to remain vigilant and not be deceived by opposition alliances that are “high on noise and low on substance.” He urged citizens to focus on the real progress being made under the Tinubu administration, including efforts to stabilize the economy, strengthen national security, and reform the energy sector.

He concluded by reiterating APC’s commitment to deepening democracy and advancing governance reforms. “We remain the only party with a cohesive structure, a clear plan, and a tested leader. Others are simply gathering because they know they can’t stand alone,” Basiru said, warning that the coming months will expose the coalition’s lack of cohesion and credibility.
