NDLEA Secures Conviction of India-Bound Drug Trafficker, Bags 25 Years Imprisonment

Three months after his arrest at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Ikeja, Lagos, Freeman Charles Ogbonna by NDLEA, an India-bound passenger, has been sentenced to 25 years imprisonment by a Federal High Court. Ogbonna was apprehended by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) after vomiting and excreting 80 wraps of cocaine. The incident occurred at the screening point of terminal 2 of MMIA as Ogbonna, traveling under the alias Carr Bismark with a Liberian passport, attempted to board a Qatar Airways flight to Delhi, India via Doha.

Following his arrest on March 31, Ogbonna was taken for a body scan, which confirmed the ingestion of illicit drugs. Preliminary investigations revealed his true identity as Freeman Charles Ogbonna. Subsequently, he was placed under observation in NDLEA custody, where he exhibited severe discomfort. Over four days, Ogbonna expelled 80 wraps of cocaine weighing 889 grams from both his mouth and anus, nearly costing him his life.
