2027: Wike Reaffirms Support for Tinubu, Denies Presidential Ambition Rumours

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has debunked reports suggesting that he is being positioned by a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to contest the 2027 presidential election. Describing the claims as “cheap blackmail and idle propaganda,” Wike made it clear that his loyalty remains firmly with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

In a statement issued on Friday by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, Wike denounced the report as false and malicious, claiming it originated from an online platform known for “thriving on falsehood and blackmail.” According to Olayinka, the publication was designed to smear the image of the FCT minister and create unnecessary political tension.

“As far as Wike is concerned, it is President Bola Ahmed Tinubu till 2031,” Olayinka asserted, adding that the minister has made his political stance clear from the onset and remains unwavering in his commitment to the current administration.

Southern PDP Stakeholders’ Meeting Misconstrued

The controversy, Olayinka explained, was linked to a recent meeting of PDP stakeholders from Southern Nigeria held on August 20, 2025. The gathering, he said, was a routine internal consultation aimed at discussing zoning arrangements within the party and not a platform to project any presidential ambition for Wike.

Olayinka listed prominent participants at the meeting, including state party chairmen from Imo, Abia, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, and Rivers States, as well as the PDP National Vice Chairman (South-East), Hon. Chidiebere Egwu Goodluck, and the Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Hon. O. K. Chinda. The meeting, he noted, culminated in a communiqué signed by these leaders—none of which mentioned Wike’s name in connection with the presidency.

He accused political detractors of “twisting facts to suit their agenda,” stressing that Nyesom conducts his political activities transparently. “The Minister does not function in hiding. He does what he says, and says what he does,” Olayinka emphasized.

Tinubu Till 2031”: Wike’s Commitment to the Renewed Hope Agenda

Reaffirming Nyesom’s loyalty to President Tinubu, Olayinka said the minister remains focused on implementing the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda in the FCT. He explained that Wike’s priority is transforming the nation’s capital into a modern city capable of competing globally in infrastructure, urban planning, and development.

“From now till 2031, it is on the mandate of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu that he will stand,” Olayinka declared. “To ensure the President’s reelection, Wike will continue to deliver on the Renewed Hope Agenda in the FCT by actualizing the visions of the President for a capital city that reflects progress and national pride.”

Olayinka urged the public to disregard “false and politically motivated narratives” intended to cause division, insisting that Wike’s focus remains service, not ambition.
